Hi all - ive been off the pill now for a few months - and my cycle is averaging approx 37days...i read somewhere that if its longer than 35 days im probably not ovulating? Anyone heard this?
Also - as my period cycle is relatively unknown i heard i can go to a gynae who can tell exactly when my most fertile days are (assuming i am ovulating) ?

TIA! x

Thanks LJB2010! Were you trying from the minute you came off the pill? Yes, but not too hard. I'd randomly do an ovulation test when I thought the time was right without worrying about it too much (and usually without actually figuring out when I was ovulating.) I think the first time the test showed that I was ovulating I ended up falling pregnant, I found the tests to be quite good since you don't always ovulate on a saturday :-)

I'd second charting - I found it invaluable when we were TTC. We tried for a while and it wasn't till I started charting that I actually felt I knew enough about my cycle to be confident we were giving it our best shot. I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler and joined www.fertilityfriend.com. Both great resources.

Melinda - I had really long cycles too when I came off the pill after having taken it for eons and eons. I had cycles of 35-45 days for the first 4 months and then fell pregnant 6 months after stopping the pill. I think my cycles were down to about 30 days at that point. Give yourself a bit of time, I think it's normal to have long cycles at the beginning.

Hannah's idea is good, I'd do the same for a couple of months then see the gynae if there's no sign of ovulation. Boots chemist sell a little pack with a thermometrer and booklet to chart the temp everyday of your cycle, after doing for a few months gives a good indication of when your ovulating. Ov test kits are good too. Clearblue are very expensive, Fortel is reasonable. Good luck.

I haven't heard that. Have you tried temperature charting? Then you can look for the temperature shift which occurs when you ovulate - there is loads of info on the web about it (I also have an iphone app to record temps etc and keep track of where in the cycle I am...). Also you could try using those home ovulation tests to try to find which day it is and make sure it is happening. It might be worth doing that for say 2 months so that you can go to your gynae armed with some more info? Or you might find that you are ovulating and don't need to go to the gynae after all. Good luck - I know it is really frustrating when you are ttc and your body isn't cooperating! x
