Don't know if it's a new thing or a Dubai thing but I'm totally jumping on the bandwagon! Why not lol! Have spied a nice tennis bracelet or a tanzanite ring in the Gold and Diamond Park altho DH is cr*p with presents so I will be lucky to receive some supermarket flowers. And a lovely baby of course ;) send him to a pre selected shop with the correct "surprises" picked out ;)

My dad gave my mum a diamond and sapphire ring as a push present; that was in the UK and a few decades ago - so neither a new thing or a Dubai thing

A red rose each for my daughter and me from my lovely husband - her safe arrival was present enough for us both. ETA: agreed Puffinlunde, first I've heard of a "push present", but have seen other threads mentioning the giving of gifts of expensive jewellery on the birth of babies. Not part of my own culture, though. edited by simpleasabc on 05/08/2012

"push present"?? It was the baby which was the only thing that mattered - TBH I have never heard of a push present of expensive jewellry - is this a Dubai thing? a new thing? ... although it would have been a nice present t have skipped the time I spent in intensive care
