I've read that pregnant women are bring given whooping cough jabs in the UK from 28 weeks. Has anyone been offered one here? Or had the discussion with their ob?

I didn't end up having it while pregnant but my parents did get the booster in Australia before coming over here to visit (bubs was only a few days old at the time). Probably best to get your Dad to have it as I have heard from several grandparents (in Australia) that they have been advised to get it if they will be spending time around the new baby.

Thanks Newbie. I've asked my obstetrician about it, and he's "ok" with me getting it but there is no stock available in the UAE! I guess that makes my decision for me. I'm going to ask dad to get the booster in Sydney before coming over as he'll be here before bub is 8 weeks old.

Hi explo, I have also read this. I wasn't offered it when pregnant but have since had a discussion with a paediatrician about it. My parents were told by their GP (in Australia) that they should get the vaccination so they do not pass the disease onto the baby. The paediatrician said there is only a small risk of it here in Dubai and that the baby's immunisation against it would most likely provide enough protection (baby gets the first vaccine at 2 months). There was never any suggestion that parents would need to be immunised. I also asked my ob (about the grandparents) while I was pregnant and it wasn't necessary. I assume since I was asking about it, if it was necessary for me I would have been advised. Not sure if that was any help!
