Best buys - muslins - great for a multitude of things, mothercare bounce chair and baby bjorn carrier - both perfect for keeping the baby secure whilst doing jobs in kitchen etc cot - eldest DD hated her bassinet so both DDs went straight into a cot breast pump pram which takes a car seat - it gives you more freedom if you don't need to transfer the baby from your car seat into a pram/pushcar. Worst buys - bassinet fussy clothes - keep it simple,

Milton tablets for sterilising Medela Swing electric Breast pump. All in one baby gro and sleep suits Fleece blankets Loads of muslins Crib rather than a Moses basket Worst: Electric swing chair Changing table Nappy changing bag - expensive and not worth the money!

This question is very subjective as you can see from the responses here. If you are planning to breastfeed, you don't need any bottle equipment or sterilizers at all. Pacifiers have even very useful for me and the floor gym was good for a while too. It really depends on your personal situation. Some mothers put their infants in fancy clothes everyday but many do not. One thing that I think we will all agree on is that you need an infant car seat...

It's a bit big for them from newborn tiny but is fine from a couple of month and is SO good for taking the 'Oooo, he/she feels hot, do you think he's/she's hot, could that be a fever?' guesswork away. Worst buy was probably a fabric sling. I bought two types and couldn't find a good fit with either.

Best buys: electric swing chair which helped to get my kids sleep especially when you need to get something done. Worst buys: baby bath - never used it. Chest of drawers with a changing area on top - we ended up just changing the nappier either on the sofa or the floor using travel changing mat. Nappy bins - it was amusing at first, but ended up using normal bin after a few days.

Best buy: A fabric sling, we used this for the first 6 months & never touched the pram until after 7 months. Moses basket until 6 months. Although he slept on me for the first 6 mths. Packs of cheap flannels / wash cloths not muslins. Milton sterlizing tablets, no other sterlizing kit required. Loads of baby gros & vests various sizes. Baby hat A few blankets. Tommee Tippee bottles & vari flow teats. Maxi Cosi car seat. Worst buy for us was the manual breast pump. We didn't need to buy the pram or cot until much later. We generally didn't buy much at all for the first 6 mths or so. Hope this helps.
