Hello all...Happy New Year!

My DS is 9 months old and I started feeding him solids from 6 months. He was great had 3 meals a day, brekky, lunch and dinner. I made a variety of foods including all fruits, veg, meat and lentils and pureed it. He loved it all until now!! He's teething could that be the problem? 2 teeth came through about 3 weeks ago. So since 2 weeks ago he won't have any breakfast, sometimes he will have his lunch and at dinner he just wants to pick at food, he's not even interested in yogurt anymore which was his fav thing to eat.

He's taking his milk thougth and drinks 8oz during the night as well which he stopped doing when he was eating but is now crying at night for a feed (obvioulsy because he is'nt getting enough in him during the day as he used too)

I'm really worried although he has'nt lost any weight - he's a small baby compared to others his age (was only 2.66kg at birth), but the pead did say he should be putting a bit more weight on then he has.

After reading the baby lead weaning thread I DO feel a bit better though as many of you have said that up until they are 12 months old they are ok with just milk and a bit of food. I guess I'm worrying because he was such a good eater before!

Should I be going down the BLW road then? and just putting food in front of him and letting him choice what and how much he wants to eat?

I would'nt even know where to start with BLW so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

And does anyone know how much milk on average a child needs to stay healthy? I have googled it and it doesnt come up with much info. I know it would be difficult to say as children are differents weights etc at different ages but I did read somewhere once that an average child between 6 and 10 months old can still be/stay healthy with 16oz of milk per 24 hrs as the BARE minimum. My son is taking around anywhere between 20/24oz per 24 hrs usually without any food.

Sorry for the long post! :)

Can you tell I'm a first time mum with no experience? lol

I can't offer you advice on BLW or food strikes, but I can tell you that the nurse told me that a baby at 7 months, established on solids, should be getting 500-600 ml (17-20 oz) of milk a day. I think it wouldn't hurt to speak with your paed but I personally wouldn't worry until it's extended (say over two weeks) or he was failing to gain weight.

We went through a solids strike over the last week ... top teeth were to blame! Bmilk or formula are still No.1 nutrition at this point so don't worry too much!

My DS (8 months old) has gone through a "solids" strike, which lasted 2 weeks! I would say, try not to make a fuss about it and force it too much, it could be the teething or just a phase. My DS would just look away, or even cry, when I offered him food. We were clearly not getting anywhere so I stopped offering him 3 meals per day and cut down to 1 until he got his appetite back. But he was only 7 months at the time so a bit younger. I think it is normal to go through phases like this and know it has happened with some friends' LO's as well. As long as he is still drinking milk (which should still account for most of his nutrition) and not losing weight don't worry too much....

I am no expert but think that as long as he is getting his milk he should be fine as like you mentioned until 12 months they advise this is most important. I would keep offering him foods at meal times and little snacks in between and see how you go. But you will only feel totally at ease if you hear everything is ok from a doc so if things dont improve dont feel silly about going to see one. Thats what they are for :)
