Hi, we've stayed at Zighy Bay and although it was lovely and very remote, we found the food and drink to be extortionate, far more so than even Dubai's priciest. We went anticpating to pay top whack, but it was so expensive it really took the edge off our stay (500AED ish for 2 very average kebabs for dinner and 1 G&T). As an alternative we had a lovely break in a pool villa at Qasr al Sarab (about a 3 hours drive from Dubai) and negtiated a great deal that included dinner and breakfast. Would definitely go back there....! My sister stayed there and had a pretty awful time. Gorgeous resort but they need to get their act together - we had mouldy bread there!!!! :\:

Have heard that villas with pools can be rented in RAK at the Mina Al Arab for the weekend.

We stayed at Al Maha last year. It's about 45 minutes drive out of Dubai and is in a conservation area in the desert. All private villas, not overlooked, and each with its own pool. Very peaceful. Two activities per day and meals included (but not alcoholic drinks, we took our own to drink by our pool) and if you don't want to go to the restaurant, just order room service. Spa treatments are available but charged separately. Thoroughly recommend it.

http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=114268 If you type in the names in the search function you may be able to find old reviews. The one above is from a thread I remember, so thought I'd put it up there for you...
