Your child needs to be 4 years old to start KG1. If you go on the specific school of your choice website, the admission age will be explained. Each school is different and has different cut off dates. edited by Barbara19 on 16/01/2011

Busy mum what school is that for?? We looked at Raffles, DD is 3 in Aug and they said she is too young to start KG1 in Sept. She would have to wait till she was 4 next year. So my understanding is KG and FS are different.

Ok he'll be turning 3 in July so he can start KG1 ? in september. right. but my main problem is wether to go for nursery or school. Is nursery more of learning form of play and in school it is more academic. The school i visited seemed to strict to me and very tough (arts, computers, second language, science, no mention of play time... Feel he is so little, havent been in any kind of nursery or playgroup before. please could you share your experience with schools and nurseries. Thanks

1.Do i put my son into nursery or FS1: As his birthday is in October he wont be eligable for school until Sept 2012. Cut off date is end of August or Start of Sept for him to start school. My dd is on the 16th of August and will start this Sept. She will be one of the youngest. 2.Is there a difference between FS1 and KG1: Yes, FS1 is from the british system KG1 is offered at Raffles and your child has to be 4 to start at KG1. It depends on which cirriculum you want your child to learn. 3. I have put DS on wait list for 2 nurseries but do i need to put him on waitlist for a school now itself ? Yes, schools seem to have waitlists here, i did the whole school thing in Sept last year and didnt even get into the schools that i really wanted that have waitlists of over 100 kids. Ie Jess, British international. I would start now if i was you to give yourself the best options for when the time comes to put him in. 4. At what age shld he be in nursery ---> KG1--- > KG2 > ???? If its Fs1 3 - 4 / KG1 4. I have recently done this whole thing for DD who is 2 years 4 months. Did this just after her second birthday. I have friends who have put there children's names down at schools when they were born and still have not received a place. I would focus on the nursery thing right now, once he is in and settled (thats if you want him to go now) then do the schools straight away. What cirriculum are you thinking you want DS to be taught in??

My DD is same age so is also 3 in October. I was under the impression that she had to be 3 in September to start 'school' (FS1/KG1) so from that wouldn't start till Sept '12. I THINK that they have to be in school from age 4 (FS2). My understanding is FS and KG are the same thing just different names. I understand that you can do FS1/KG1 at nursery rather than a school, but the advantage of doing at a school is that you are guaranteed a place for the following years. Also if your company pays education allowance they may only contribute to school rather than nursery. We haven't done a lot of research into actual schools yet but I keep hearing stories about wait lists etc so am going to get my self in gear and get onto it soon - though it still feels a bit early to be worrying about schools when we've not long celebrated 2nd Birthday lol Not sure if this helps or confuses the issue even more - am sure there will be someone with real experience to explain better :)
