I have no idea how to look after a cat, neither I nor DH even like cats that much but DD adores her She's very sweet but young, she keeps nipping me and I'm not sure how you discipline a kitten?

She was very nervous at the start but has found her feet nd now shes after making it known who's boss!

All advice very welcome.

do not use your hands to play with them and when she nips yell no, leave your hand there for a minute, look her in the eye then slowly remove your hand and stop playing. It usually works as they seem to get the routine. Putting her in a dark room, not sure how she would process that one? Most kittens will do it for a short time to try it on I think so you let her know who is boss :) good luck :) btw, go over to WWW.felinefriendsdubai.com they have a cat care section :)

Thanks, I've been tapping her on the nose and saying 'NO' but she continue. It's not real biting as it's quite gentle but as I have 2 small children I want to atop it now before it becomes something else. As far as I understand it when you tap them on the nose they think you are also playing and so it doesn't discourage them...

We also adopted a street cat... they're fun. By nipping, I assume you mean biting? I have spoken with quite a few people (inc vets) about this and it seems it's a sort of young street cat thing that they do grow out of. In the meantime my advice is to scream loudly when she does it so she knows she has hurt you and also to pick her up by the scruff of the neck and put her in a dark room (a bit like a "naughty step") to have a wee think about things ;) Good luck.
