C r a p. My 3 yr old hasn't been feeling the greatest since we got back from holidays on Tuesday. He just woke up from a nap and his eye was glued shut with yellow discharge. I'm thinking eye infection but his dr closes around 5:30 for the weekend. Can pharmacists here recommend some drops or will I have to take him in to a hospital?

My 9 mo had this, though his were more greenish. I telephoned his dr who told me to give him gentimyacin drops, the pharmacist can give them to you without a prescription. yep, my 5mo also has this at the moment and has been prescribed the same although trying to get them in her eye is the fun part!!

yup, a good pharmacist will tell you that you need to see a dr first, before they can give you anything. Clean each eye with a different bit of dampened cotton wool, gently working from the bridge of the nose towards the ear to try and avoid any cross-contamination.

When I have tried in the past, pharmacists have not been keen to provide drops for a child, but it's always worth asking. My g.p. in the UK told me that the first line of treatment for sticky eye is to clean it with stwerile cotton wool and cool bolied water, so you could try that first. Hope he's better soon.
