Back home I used to buy (from any pakistani or indian store) frozen cubes of garlic and frozen cubes of ginger.

Nothing added to them, pure, good, natural product. Just Frozen. SO handy as they were crushed, blended into cubes, ready to pop in and use.

Can't find this here - (i've only looked in Spinnys and C4 though).

Hate the stuff you get in jars. Hate powder too.

Ideas?

I am the same as you Dxb.Fairy I use to use the frozen stuff back home, my mum has even bought some over for me! I am still looking for an alternative out here, I have heard about Garlic Paste, wander if that is any good? and if so where can we buy that? In lulu or c4... Its generally in the aisle near or opposite to the Oil Aisle.. They are in Small glass bottles. Perhaps in the section where you get the pastes and ketchups. The difference between them and using the fresh ones is the same as using canned tomatoes or purees to using fresh tomatoes. :) I use the bottled ones in case of emergency !! :) Always good to have a back up..

paste stuff seems to be everywhere but i don't like the additives and preservatives in them. Especially as I use garlic everyday (I cook mostly Mediterranean/Italian dishes). hmm so I guess its not so bad being able to get those ready peeled garlic in those tubs, at least its fresh.

ditto - its what i do now - blend them, put them in a jar, add some olive oil to the jar and i have a nice jar of garlic paste. BUT wanted an easy way out from cleaning the blender and doing this weekly. Never mind, will stick to doing it. btw for onions, you know in c4 you can get ready chopped and frozen onions in the freezer. They are in c4 branded bags. Much better economically.

I make it at home. Batches that last the entire week. Get Garlic and Ginger from the super market. Get them peeled. And put them in the blender. And I have a batch of ginger and garlic paste ready to last me a week or more. I do the same for mint, coriander and curry leaves. Wash, Pluck the leaves and put it in a netted bag or in paper towel and put that in a air tight container. And they stay fresh for the week.. :)

I haven't seen them. What I do is buy the garlic from spinneys that is already peeled (whole cloves) and in the plastic container, then I put them it in the freezer. When i need them i give them a couple of seconds in the microwave and crush them with a garlic crusher into the sauce. I also do the same with their onions that are diced but put them directly into the cooking pot from the freezer. Something I would never do at home, (home is Italy) but hey, nothing is fresh here anyway! Happy cooking. :)

How about making your own? Put them in the blender/food processor and then in the ice cube tray to freeze? :)
