DS is 11 months, is it ok to give him the following foods: ready-made humus from the supermarket, tinned sweetcorn, sardines in tomatoe sauce, tinned salmon?? If its ok, then should i cook the latter two or is it fine straight from the tin? Also, if anyone is familiar with the brand 'Oatso easy', would it be ok to give these flavoured oats to a baby?

Poopy82, I would love that, it be great! I recently moved to executive towers in business bay,I don't have friends with babies and my son loves being around children his age, he will 11 months on the 16th. Perhaps we can get together and organise something for us and our LO's.

Poppy82, Hello.Again.Kitty is right you can give them these things, but read the ingredient list. My almost 11 months old son, recently has gone off baby foods and cereal. I started to give him cheerios for breakfast, but was shocked at level of sugar it contain, sugar, corn syrup, honey plus salt. So you really need to watch out! I go to the organic cafe in dubai mall, they have lots of variety stuff that suitable children of that age.

Hummus contains sesame, so unless there's any history of nut allergy in your family, it should be fine... but watch for reactions. Tinned sweetcorn is fine, although choose some with no added salt or sugar... tinned fish of any kind isn't as good as fresh, but should be fine too... again, watch out for salt levels in anything pre-prepared. Children under 2 should be having less than 2g of salt per day. Limit fish like tuna, swordfish and shark to once a week, as they tend to concentrate nasties like mercury (basically, follow the same guidelines as for pregnant women) Oh, and yes, you can eat tinned stuff straight from the tin, as it has been cooked and sterilised as part of the production process... whether or not you'd want to is another matter! edited by Hello.Again.Kitty on 05/02/2011
