Can somebody please tell me what it is attacking all of my clothing, DH's clothing and my childrens clothing. The holes in garments are driving me crazy and I cannot for the life of me see anything that resembles a moth, bug or little pest in the wardrobes ( which are all brand new ). I am just completely baffled as I am spotting tiny new holes each and everyday. Gggrrrrr :-(
Does anyone else struggle with this?

I have heard of using Cheese as a solution too but only the Danish Feta Cheese !! No other cheese will do in the current weather. The beetles or silverfish will just eat the cheese and leave the clothes as they are ...

I've been having the same problem and yesterday found a creature in the ironing basket - like a silverfish but with yellow and black stripes. Checked the laundry and he'd had a chew alright! Not sure how he got there as the clothes are lined dried and brought in the same day and ironed before going straight into the wardrobe/chest of drawers. The only thing I can think of is that he came in on some cardboard drinks boxes that we keep in the laundry room? Gross.

We had friends who lived in Oman for a while and they had the same problem with the wretched things.... They also left miniscule bits of cheese around and apparently they completly disappeared. Only really small crumb sized peices though.... Yeh I also have some friends in Doha who had an infestation of them. I was a bit suprised as i thought leaving cheese, however small, around would encourage ants... But they said that ants won't go near cheese. Weird, but it obviously worked for them. well we get those little ghost ants in the kitchen but never seen any in the bedroom

I'm convinced it's not a bug of any kind. My t-shirts all get it in the same place and I'm sure bugs won't go to any lengths trying to find the same place on each item of clothing to eat - they'd eat the exposed bit which would be top-front-middle of each t-shirt. I agree - my holes are always in the tummy button area (and no I don't have a pointy sharp outy tummy button :)) of a T-shirt. And thanks EW Guide for digging out the links!!

There is a prehistoric looking bug that my Australian friend told me was a silver fish or something like that. I found one in my drawer one day.. She said they eat clothes. Those are Slaters (scottish term I think?)..look a bit like a amall armadillo thingy? cheese cloth beetles are smaller and black, not silver I haven't seen the one your talking about. I found this silver thing in my house months ago after our new neighbors moved in. yuk..does it have antennae and a sort of fish like tail? if so its andearwig..not a cheesecloth beetle Look at this link.. omg - we have the same and it is so weird and oh so annoying wen u as a family have all got air conditioning built into your clothes :) - trying to find moths but no can see - so is there any way of actually getting rid as opposed to feeding the little b@ggers cheese - this being dubai they prob want the most expensive one heheheheh to be honest I don't know. I have only ever used cheese. does anyone else know if you can use anything else to get rid of them?

I have these holes at the from of most of my tops, at the bottom in the middle. I have eventually putting it down to carrying my kids and it rubbing my top against my jeans. Also I think it's accidentally buttoning up your top when you are doing up your jeans/trousers. That's my theory anyway.

Our holes are all over so I think it more sinister than clothing just catching zips, seatbelts, and pegs etc but yes I'm sure all that does add to holes too. I think it is either the water or the dreaded cheese beetle. Darn it! Am now thinking I'm going to have to share my yummy cheeses with an unwanted house guest and that does not make me happy. october - good point, cotton knickers must not be tasty as mine are all fine too! Socks too for that matter! :-) Thanks for all your posts gals. SH

I hade this problem as well with my cotton tee shirts but finally figured out it was my seatbelt catching the fabric when I was in the car and it would rub the shirt against the snap of my pants and the seatbelt causing a small hole and then when it was washed it just got worse.

Ladies..get some cheese and put very small pieces inside your cupboard. the cheesecloth beetle is so named as it is the only insect that actually eats dairy products (as well as cotton!). they should eat the cheese and not the cotton on your t-shirts. Freckles 1, I thought you were having a laugh! Are you serious? Won't cheese stink?????????? SH No..the beetles will eat the cheese and not your clothes. How long do they take to eat a piece of cheese? Just wondering how long that piece of cheese will sit in the wardrobe? Would hate to attract any other "nasties" whilst doing so. SH We've never had any problems with other nasties coming in. Just use a really tiny bit...like a crumb size. It should disappear within a few hours or so
