DH turns 30 soon... Ideas for a budget party please !!!

How about a proper dress up dinner party...adults only. Not sure if you have a house or a flat but you could rent some tables and chairs, lay them out beautifully (beg and borrow matching plate sets etc if like me you have nothing that goes together!)..lovely table cloths, candles etc etc. Rope in your friends to share the cooking...someone does h'ors d'oeuvres, someone does the starter etc etc...make up menus for everyone Evening dress only....black tie if possible. or......do the same kind of dinner party but see if you can get one of those murder mystery games and get everone to dress up in character or.......hire a limo for 3 / 4 hours....get everyone to meet at a certain place. You and hubby arrive and everyone is there with the limo. It takes you to two or three destinations of your choice for drinks and finally drops you off at your last destination which is where you finish up. I actually don't think they are too expensive and you can take your own drink in them

chants39 am loving your idea, and it's been safely stored in my memory bank!! CW whatever you decide it will be lovely I'm sure :-) We did a birthday tea party for a friend who was 30 and didn't want to be, we made all the sandwiches, cupcakes, jelly and ice cream, all the party games we had as kids (pass the parcel, sleeping lions, musical statues etc etc) it went down a blast! We had all the paper matching plates etc and party hats and streamers - he thought it was fab, he's still talking about it 15 years later :-)

I did an overnight desert trip for some friends (there were only 8 of us, but I'm sure they can accommodate 20). The organiser has now become my friend - he only uses Hummers, which is cool in itself- you do dune bashing, sand boarding, just soak up the scenery, then do all the daft henna tattoo, belly dancing, buffet stuff which was great fun...then after lots of sheesha and beverages and a sing song round the open fire we all got given sleeping bags and mats and slept under the stars - and I have to say it's one of the best weekends I've had in Dubai. Can enquire for you if you like? I have also done the private yacht which was great. Never done it - but you could group book Dreamland and stay over? And......Oh gawd I'm opening up a can of worms here, but if it's close friends and a landmark birthday the world is your oyster, as people WILL pay to come if you decide on something like a very swish private yacht / Yalumba etc. (and you pay for hubby). Running away now.... Seriously though CW - I LOVE coming up with ideas for things like this (I had 85 people on a catamaran for my birthday a few years ago and just did a party in UK for 150 people). So if you could say a bit about budget if you are paying and if you want it to be afternoon / evening or both / at home etc...I will get the old grey matter twitching.

having a party for my DH at the end of the month for the same amount of people and I have a small budget too. We are going for a 1920's black & white theme. I am having the party at the house - we have a nice space outside so saves on hiring a venue. Borrowing tables and chairs and just hiring chair covers at Dhs. 3.50 per cover. If I needed chairs + covers it would be only Dhs. 8. Can give you the companies contact no. I went down to Satwa and bought some chiffon material which I am hanging all around our carport - this is where the table for dinner will be and just bought some pretty ribbon to tie the chiffon back with. I got some cheap candles from Ikea and I keep every glass bottle I use - coffee bottles, pickled beetroot bottles - which you can decorate with the matching ribbon and place the candles inside. This makes for great lighting instead of bright lights. Also been able to borrow a projector and screen so will be playing a 1920 Charlie Chaplin movie - just to play in the background and set the scene. Of course as it is 1920s theme - gangster etc - I am putting a 'gun check' rack at the entrance - just a normal clothing rack where they need to leave their toy guns. Also getting a mirror ball from Dragon Mart. Will get a high table too and decorate as a bar - place a few high bar stools around it. As I am going for a speakeasy club feel I am placing seating around the rest of the garden with some retro table cloths - get material from Satwa. A friend is helping with the music and another helping me set up. Also making food at home so saving on the catering. Also doing a signature cocktail so can make bulk - will keep the booze cost down. The just got some feather boas and beads from satwa to decorate. Also get people to dress up they can be your 'decorations'. Home Centre in the Oasis centre on SZR is having a great sale so I got some stuff from there to use for the party. Once you decide on a theme then the internet can also provide loads of ideas. Cant you send him on a boys afternoon to Go karting at that place by sports city ( sorry, my mind is blank today). He could have an afternoon with the boys and then all the wives can prepare some snacks with a few glasses of vino and wait for them to arrive home for an evening garden buffet. Think there is a voucher for Karting in the Entertainer!
