vp if you read my post again, you will see quite clearly I encouraged the OP to leave now. However, she asked for advice and she may decide not to take the advice. You, I or no one else can force anyone to do things, no matter how 'right' we feel our advice is. Events here have a nasty way of evolving rapidly and she may leave her decision to leave too late. She should know what her options are, and make her own decisions. So, I stand by my offer.

No brainer, like the ladies said just GO, it may seem very daunting now but once you are back on familiar ground you will know that you made the right choice.

So my mother works for the priminister... she adviced me exactly what everyone is saying... your putting ur children in a bad situation by keeping them here and out of school... not to mention putting ur uae friends in an ackward situation by asking them for money... U need to accept the facts and return to Canada... there they can provide you with low income housing, as well as welfare and child tax benifits, not to mention womens shelters and food banks... much better than sitting in a jail if you ask me... im really sorry your in this situation... and i wish there were more i could do... Xxx Good Luck

As a Canadian Citizen, she will only get assistance in Canada. She must take her children home.Yes, I just meant if for example she went to UK and could not find her feet, the govt would be a little bit more forgiving.

you don't even need to go back home. go anywhere...just somewhere to find a job to feed and house you all, but not in the Gulf. Preferably somewhere you can get assistance.

Get on the plane with your children and go back to Canada. Of course you will not be worse off in Canada!!! you will be better off and you will have time to find a job or retrain, your kids will go to school and you will get Welfare or assistance until you can get back on your feet. You must establish your residency immediately and high tail it to a govt office for help. You will be ver irresponsible to stay here. Your children will suffer..go home. Get reestablished. If you want to come back later it will be with a job :)...but. do not do what so many people have done, and that is overstay their welcome, with no money, no way to feed their children..get out of here and get home where there will be help!!!!!!

All of the ladies have given you the best advice. Just to add, you may not have the choice about leaving or not. If a case is brought against you, and it will be, if you are unable to cover the landlord's cheque. Normally your name will be entered into the computer at Immigration showing you have a legal issue. You may be detained there and then and taken to a police station holding cell. Once you get into the legal system here it is very difficult, and highly stressful. It will do you no good assuming certain procedures will take place, just like home (Canada, in you case) everything is very different, drawn out and complicated, and you will not be at liberty to do much to help yourself. Where would your children stay and who would be responsible for them, if you had to go into prison? I agree with another lady, it really is a no brainer, you must not stay here. Take the airtickets and leave now while you can. I do not know for sure, but I would assume Canada will have agencies in place that help families in distress, if you honestly have no family or friends there who can support you until you get yourself back on track. Maybe you could google Canadian Agency information. If the very worst happens to you, and you are sent to prison, please keep my number and call. I know people who visit both men and ladies in Al Awir every week. 050 5671 434 Lot's of Good Luck, Elle

you and your oldest 2 children can get work back home to support all of you. The youngest 2 need to be in school. If you stay, then your kids will be sent back and you will go to jail. Leave now.

If you stay here and your cheque bounces you're most likely to end up in jail until the debt is recovered. Wouldn't that mean that your children would end up in care??? Surely going home is a no-brainer in this situation!

Good advice given. I'm sure you know what to do.. just don't wait until May 1st. Do a quick search on this site and you'll find people who have had their post dated cheques cashed early. Go. Go now.

I'm so sorry to hear the situation that you are in but......you need to leave right now. take the tickets from your embassy. You say you will be worse off in your home country but of course you will not.....if you stay here you could easily be in jail. your children are already out of school with the exception of your eldest - you need to go back and get them into schools in Canada. Do you not have any family member in your home country? Where is the father of the children - is he not sending any money? I think the best thing for you all is to leave and get yourselves all set up again in your home country. What on earth will happen to your children if you are arrested..... You have tried and given yourself time to find a new job but now is the time to be realistic and get yourself and your children home while you can. Good luck

Even if you manage by some miracle to find a job in the next few weeks - is it realistic that you would have enough in the Bank by May 1st to cover the rent cheque plus 4 lots school fees? - you can hardly leave your 8 year olds who are currently home if you are out working can you? Deep down you must know in your heart that the only thing that makes sense is to leave now while you still can

You need to get out before that rent cheque bounces and you end up in debtors prison Even though a move at this time is not ideal at least your family will be able to stay together

Yes, at least there are governmental social assistance programs there to assist you until you can get back on your feet again.

Is the father of your children not providing you with support? What about family? I'd say cut your loses and leave to go and stay with family.

Hello, I am a Canadian currently living in Ras Al Khaimah. I have been here with my children since 2008. I am a single mother with four children, ages 18, 16, 8 and 8. I came here originally with an American company which has since left the country and moved on to China. I decided to stay here with my family, since I liked it here so much. I was recently employed in a government office here in RAK, but I had to leave due to sexual harassment. I have taken 3 of my children out of school because I just can't afford the English speaking school here. I have to let my eldest daughter finish her last year of the IB program, so that she can move forward with university. I have been without income since the end of January and I am struggling to feed my children now. Some friends are giving me a few hundred aed here and there to help me. But I also have another problem; I have given the owner of my home a rent check dated May 1, 2011 in the amount of 22,500 aed, which will not clear the bank. I am looking for work, everyday, but so far I haven't had one response to my CV, I am well qualified, but some jobs are 2000aed per month. I don't know where to turn or what to do. I went to my embassy; they said they will give me airline tickets to go home. If I go home, I will have nothing, less than I have here, no home, no furnishings, no job and no money. I don't know where to go for help. I am hoping you can direct me where to go to get some help for my family. It is so frightening being here as a single mother, with the full responsibility of four children and not knowing how I will be able to feed them or house them in the future. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
