Yep shj, he was on his side at 9 weeks, front at 13, crawled at 17 and now at 5.5mo he is trying to pull himself up on furniture! Sometimes I feel like we skipped "baby" and headed straight into the toddly stage ;) We did nothing special. He is just a big strong kid with a really determined personality!

Thanks all. Just to show Mummy who is boss my DS ate a fair portion of apple about ten mins after I posted this!!! I am very grateful for your responses and I will just keep on with our slow and steady approach. I am hoping to switch to BLW soon but I just can't get DH on board with it yet and I have to respect his opinion too - he thinks I will choke DS on day one with no pureed food. He is doing really well physically (DS, not DH!) - crawling from 4mo and sitting up no problem so I really think BLW would be great for him. He is fab with a spoon too - just hadn't swallowed anything until today! Thanks again x crawling at 4 months? wow!! any tricks on that? DD is already 6 months and is just starting to turn on her own..heheh

DS was exactly the same. He has only just, in the last week, started to enjoy the baby rice with a tiny bit of fruit in it. The first 2 weeks he pretty much spat it all back out. As he's still 5 months I'm taking it really slowly. Like you, we'll be travelling so I thought i'd ease him into it at a slow pace. They are at the exploration stage, so don't stress too much. Just offer little bits and slowly and don't stress if none stays down. You could also read into Baby Lead Weaning. I've just read it and found it interesting how many mothers found their babies loved food once they were given the lead. With DS, he's not interested at all. Everything lands up on the floor. So I'm spoonfeeding for now but hope to switch to BLW at a later stage.

It sounds like you might need to wait a little while. What signs of readiness is he showing? What about baby led weaning instead?

You need to persevere - try mixing a smaller part of baby rice with vast majority of his usual milk first so theres just some texture to the fluid and slowly increase your quantities... I stuck with rice for atleast a week before introducing the veggies and fruit just so that the texture is accustomed to first... good luck and keep at it - It will happen!

Don't worry, just try at different times different things, just for DS to experience new tastes. It will happen one way or another, but it just takes time

Should I persevere or give up...any experienced Mums with a view? I wanted to get him started on solids now as we are travelling a lot when he will be 6-7months and I thought travel + new food could be quite stressful for him. I have tried baby rice, apple, pear, carrot, sweet potato, parsnip...he hates them all equally!
