Living in Oman I am biased, The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muscat. Restrained elegance and devoted reverance. Everyone who visits Oman should take the time to visit.
I think there are tours every day except Friday, at 10 am. I went on a Thursday. Was really impressed by the effort being made to cross cultural barriers and to be transparent about Islam. Helped that tour was done (deliberately?) by a lady from the London area who had converted to Islam after living in the Middle-East for a while, I think. Very open to all questions (though not ones about returning wrongly packaged meat to supermarkets, I don't think ;) ). I'd like to go to one of the cultural breakfasts or lunches as well, must be very interesting.
Went to the Grand Mosque at Abu Dhabi, but just got on the tail end of a tour, so can't really compare on that level. Far grander and more beautiful, of course :)

Shan't be going for another week but if you could check before then that would be great! I found something on the internet but it said it was open Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, then later it said Thursdays and then again later Sundays and Thursdays at 10am. The tel. no. seemed to be a number short. Thanks!

I love the Jumeirah Mosque - its not as big as AD Mosque but IMO, the tour is better.
You can get information about the tour here http://www.cultures.ae/jumeirah_mosque_visit.php
HTH
Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday (think Thurday) - if you are thinking of going on Thursday i can go take a peep for you as it's about 100 m away :)
You need to dress respectfully - arms and legs covered and bring a scarf (i think they lend them out thou if you dont have)
Does anyone know which days and times it is open to non-Muslims? The number I have doesn't connect. Was hoping to go to Grand Mosque AD but now can't so wondered about this one. Has anyone done the tour, how did you find it?
