So how serious is the SIDS recommendation of putting the baby on her back to sleep after 6 months? My almost 6 months old baby loves to sleep on her tummy. Especially when putting her to sleep, she turns and almost rolls over on her tummy in her drowsy state. Even after turning her on her back, I have to check on her every once in a while and, many times, I find her on her tummy and roll her over again. But I was thinking, she is old enough to roll herself over very easily, so is it still dangerous for her?

DS was suffering from reflux & he used to sleep on his side. When he learned to roll over from back to tummy at 5 months he started to sleep on his tummy. As long as ur LO can roll over on her own, there is nothing to worry about. xx

But I was thinking, she is old enough to roll herself over very easily, so is it still dangerous for her? i went to sleep on my tummy and my first born would only sleep on his tummy with bum in the air, i do think that this was probably something to do with the fact that he had a colonstomy and that it was probably much more comfortable that way, but when he was in ICU the nurses were always "concerned" that he wasnt sleeping on his back, I was always in the room with him and the fact that because of all his problems he didnt sleep much at all and so when he did the fact that he was on his tummy tough.

I was told that when they are old enough to roll on to their tummies you can let them. SIDS risk decreases massively after 6 months.

I completely agree with H.A.K. you'll stress yourself out too much if you try to keep turning her back throughout the night. If you wake up during the night just take a peek that she's ok. Soon you'll find her all over parts of her bed :)

if she's strong enough to turn over, a/ you can't stop her and b/ she can move enough to get herself into a more comfortable position and/or out of a dangerous position.
