Hi ladies, I'm just over 8 wks pregnant and since week 5/6 when morning sickness (all day nausea) kicked in, I have developped a total aversion to pretty much every kind of food (sight, taste and smell!). My diet currently consists of bread, scrambled eggs and crackers (and I have always loved all kinds of food!!). I'm taking pregnacare multivitamins so hopefully little bubs won't be deprived of essentials but wondering if anyone else experienced this - and how long does it last for?? The nausea, hunger and food aversions are really getting me down! Thanks in advance xx

Hey Ladies. 9w2d, and sick of food. but i have to keep eating it. its the only thing that works. I mean I am constantly shoving somehting in my mouth. I am also taking navidoxine for the nausea. which has helped with the appetite too. I have some good times and some bad times, all in the same day. But it makes the nausea a little better. I am an advocate for throwing back water, supposedly it helps. Liters of it per day. Also ice lollies are my staple...those and frosted flakes...very odd that I can stomach the milk. Anyhow, wishing you all lovely mommies to be a Happy Mothers day,:D and take heart that this nightmarish part is supposed to be over soon. I just talk to bean and ask for a nice day. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I dont. ;) oh well. Love and happiness to you!

Hi i was on the same thing as you, duphastone. I felt it made me feel sicker too. I had DD in 2008, missed miscarriage end of 2009 and then concieved and delivered another DD in Dec 2010. Im not sure if the duphastone helped maintain the pregnancy or not, honestly i started easing myself off them at about 9weeks as i felt like i couldnt take it anymore. However i didnt feel a huge releif from the nausea only slight and still carried bub to term no dramas. thats my experience. My OB said that dusphastone wouldnt really make me feel sicker but who knows i felt like she put me on it very quickly. HTH talk openly to your OB about your concerns.

Aaahhh, thanks ladies, good to know I am not alone (although I am sorry anyone else is suffering this!). Was beginning to worry as other friends who are pregnant seemed to have breezed through the first trimester with just a little bit of sickness...... Difficult to know what the right thing to do is re Duphaston - we had been TTC for 7 months after a missed miscarriage last year, and nothing was happening (despite falling pregnant straight away the first time). Doc did tests, came back that my progesterone was so low that my body would struggle to maintain a pregnancy. I was put on Duphaston and fell pregnant the same month. Might have been a coincidence, who knows.....!! If it is the meds making me feel this sick, I feel it is worth battling on with them....seeing the doc again on Saturday so hopefully she'll either decrease the dose or take me off them if everything seems to be going ok. Meanwhile, it's back to staying out of the kitchen and subsisting on crackers!! Hope you feel better soon KTS!

Hi girls I'm just about to hit 14 weeks and have been feeling pretty sick all day since about week 7 too, I was worried as all I wanted to eat was cheese and bread and potatoes, couldn't face anything green for a couple of months. I'm on duphaston and cyclogest and was also having weekly progesteron injections (ivf pregnancy) so perhaps that had something to do with it. A couple of things that helped me were accupuncture (at Synergy on Al Wasl Road) accupressure wrist bands which I wore constantly, even to bed, ginger beer and ginger ale and also some ginger tea that I made with fresh ginger and hot water with a bit of honey and drank hot or cold. My sister got me some ice lolly moulds from crate & barrel and I made lollies with orange juice and also some with apple & ginger juice which were the only thing I could eat when I felt really sick. I'm suddenly feeling so much better, I'm still on all the progesteron but I don't feel sick any more, I fancy normal food again and I've got some energy back so hang in there ladies - I think most girls start feeling better from week 12 so you're nearly there. x

mrsrjbr - Im so glad there is someone out there feeling exactly the same way as me! I too am just over 8 weeks and feel ill all day every day :( So far I have only been sick approx 6-7 times but the nausea feeling NEVER goes away. I can't face many foods either- im living on crackers and ready salted crisps and just drinking water. Tried drinking some orange juice this afternoon and thought it went down quite well - but have just brought it all back up :( and would not suggest anyone tries it as it REALLY burns on the way out! lol. I was given Duphaston when I went for an emergency appointment as I had a slight bleed but when I saw my obs/gynae spec the week later he took me off them and said they are a load of rubbish and do not do anything. Still feeling as ill now as I was when I was taking them so unfortunately its not them that was making me feel so ill (although it could be for you?) I feel like I have tried everything to get rid of the nausea but nothing works. Tried the travel sickness wrist bands and the Dr also gave me some anti sickness tablets which did nothing! I guess we just have to put up with it and hope that it doesn't last too long. I hate being sick - I feel so helpless and it always makes me cry! (stupid I know but it just happens!) Im taking pregnacare too and just hope that there is enough goodness in my body for the baby as there is no way im getting any goodness from the food im eating. Good luck and I hope you start to feel a bit better soon :)

Thanks for the reassurance HAK, I'm on Duphaston too (my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 11.5wks and when we started TTC again, my bloods came back as having low progesterone). I'm having another scan on Saturday so if all is well, I'm hoping I'll be given the green light to come off the meds. I hate taking tablets but I'm too scared to risk not taking them! Back to the crackers for me until then......! I've said it several times before, but there's actually no scientific research that proves taking progesterone supports a pregnancy or can save a pregnancy destined for miscarriage... sorry to sound harsh, but it's true, and I too suffered an mc at 8 weeks. Not saying to stop straight away or to disregard your OB/Gyn's advice, but in the UK it is positively unheard of to take these supplements... in fact, Duphaston has been banned in the UK (albeit for "commercial reasons"). A link has, however, been suggested between high progesterone levels and morning sickness.

yes, I was exactly the same second time around, apart from scrambled eggs would make me gag too - so it was just bread, breadsticks and mashed potato. I lost about 5kg in the first trimester, but DS wasn't at all affected - your body will take what it needs for bubs as a priority - just keep taking the vitamins and keep listening to your body and give it whatever it wants. My morning sickness stopped at 14 weeks, but I think it was prolonged and aggravated by my OB/Gyn telling me to take Duphaston. I took it from 11 weeks and within 48 hours of stopping, all my mc symptoms also cleared up.
