Teeth cutting, refusing to eat, throwing up, constipation - are they all related?!?!

So I found a lovely surprise on Friday whilst trying to feed DD papaya with my finger - her 2 front teeth are cutting!!! DD is 24 weeks old, so just under 6 months.

- She has gone from eating 3 meals a day - to none :\: She literally shuts her mouth close and shakes her head from side to side as if to say NO-NO-NO
- She went from having a poopy diaper every day to nothing! Eventually gave her a glycerine sypository on Sat and so discovered she was constipated :( Have never seen her strain that hard, red in the face, crying, until eventually one hard little "poop" came out! Gave her another suppository and "green mash potato like" poop came out! Nothing since.
- Has been having "abnormal" spit up after every milk or solid meal?!
- Apart from her teeth coming through, there has been no excessive drooling, no temperature and no "biting aggressively" on objects!

Please tell me these are all related to those little monsters trying to make an appearance in her mouth!?

Or could this be pointing to a viral infection which is upsetting her tummy, hence not wanting to eat?

ETA: She is still taking all 3 naps during the day, however waking for a feed during the night now as she is not getting enough food/calories during the day! Also refusing to nurse today :(

since you are still introducing solids you would have to apply the same rules (one new food every few days) to anything you get her to suck or chew on. I found my baby was never that interested in teething toys and especially didn't like anything to cold but he loves to chew on a piece of apple or similar in his munchkin safe feeder (from mothercare) (and then you don't have to worry about choking hazards), as a bonus the juice your baby sucks will help with the constipation.

u can try giving her a whole cold cucumber to gnaw on.. or any hard cold fruit.. apple, carrots.. it will soothe her sore gums.. Ooh thanks for the tips Shaf! Small little problem, she wont let me come near her mouth with anything other than my finger (just about), papaya has been a hit and miss, but thats about it! Will give cucumber a try tomorrow though!

Thanks ladies! Solids are on hold for now and she has since produced a small poopy diaper everyday for the last 2 days now! Green and seedy though ;) And yes, her once chubby little thighs are getting leaner by the day since all our "drama" started :(

its pretty much all because the teeth. this r all the symptoms. my DS lost 2KG during his teething which made me go nuts. but just have patience and keep on trying but don't force. cold foods like yogurt, or frozen yogurt, watermellon or make fresh fruit ice lollies. a baby would never ever starve itself to death. if really hungry they will eat but due to pain just not as much. try using dentinox teething gel, it did wonders for my little one.

3 meals a day is quite a lot at 6 months, I do remember my guy not wanting to chew on much when his teeth came through. The others I can't help you with unless you have introduced a new food. Oatmeal caused a lot of reflux in out house. DD *took* well to eating 3 meals a day, when I mean 3 meals - 1 teaspoon rice cereal + 1 teaspoon fruit puree for breakfast and lunch and evenings 1 teaspoon rice cereal + 1 teaspoon tooth vegetable. Before I had her on this eating plan, she went from sleeping through the night, to wanting to feed every 3hrs, introduced the meals and she slept through the night again! So all indicators where there that she needed the extra calories?! I was just meaning not to worry about her eating a lot of solids at that age if she doesn't want to, especially if she is having digestive upset. If the vomiting and constipation continue try backing off on the rice cereal, its actually quite hard for a baby that age to digest, if you are breastfeeding, then nursing right before or after will help break it down. (not so with formula) BTW there are way more calories gram for gram in milk than in fruit and vegie purees

It didn't take my daughters first few teeth to come through completely, I would say one week or so, her molars are taking a bit longer but they are much bigger.

Just wanted to add that she finally managed to poop on her own yesterday, so I am putting a hold on the solids until things are back to normal again! Will introduce it in a few days time and see how it goes. Once the teeth has broken through, any idea how long it takes for the whole tooth to come out? It seems as she is cutting both bottom teeth at the same time :( Good things is - she does allow me to put the Ashton & Parsons powders on her tongue and enjoys it when I rub her gums with Bonjela ;) Anything else and the mouth is shut close :\:

My daughter is 17 months and has had all those symptoms at one time or another! She went for about six weeks without eating much at all and sometimes she would eat nothing for days at a time. She has nine teeth now (including 2 molars) and her eating is back to normal. Teething is a nightmare but it does pass....eventually!

Oh and to add, the only time I noticed a distinct change in his poopy movements was when I introduced rice cereal and he went 5 days without one. So I stopped giving it to him and voila- all better. I am only feeding him solids once a day- twice max, but he doesn't take much of it. And no, no spit up- except when he rolls onto his tummy or something soon after eating ;)

Hi Plumie ! :) I think DS is going through something very similar but to a lesser extent... so it could all be related to the teething. He is not that much interested in the b**b and when I feed him his solids he also started just 2 days ago shutting his mouth whereas before he was opening it wide enough to swallow me whole! He is still sleeping regularly, if not more! But he is drooling really excessively and chewing on everything and his hands are constantly in his mouth. he only went without a poop yesterday and today not much- so we'll see. I don't feel any teeth coming out as such, but his gums feel very hard and I am sure they will come soon. Shame hope your DD is back to normal soon. xx

in short... yes, probably. Painful things, teeth and every child seems to deal with them in a slightly different way.
