Hi ladies,

I am determined to try for as natural a birth as possible, however because I am 36 and it is my first, it seems that most docs here are advocating an elective c-section in case of any complications (I don't want to go back to the UK for the birth for various reasons....)

I have been told Dr Grace who works from International Modern Hospital is more 'old school' and would be happy to let me try to go it alone....has anyone any experience of Dr Grace and/or International Modern Hospital??

TIA xxx

Thanks AnC! That is true. A natural pregnancy is waaaay different than natural labor and delivery. I understand. But I think the major problem is with those that try to push you to do the C-section for the moolah! Those are the ones I am trying to avoid... Thanks for the info!

ladies... i was always a strong believer of natural birth but u must understand that pregnancy and labour are different in case of each and every person... so many factors come into play - from age, health issues, previous issues, pelvic bone size, etc... i kept pushing for a natural birth... and went to a doctor who was pro-natural but in the end i almost ended up risking my lil angel's life because of my adamant attitude... thankfully the doctor forced me into an emergency c-section and my baby was out and safe... so please keep this in mind as ur due date approaches... whatever u do should be in the best interest of the child... and sometimes a c-section is what will ensure that the child is safe and in ur hands... i agree that a lot of doctors are pressurised into taking the surgical option by the hospital management (just to weasel us out of more money)... and some of them do it just because it's least risky for them (since they will be able to safely bring out the baby with no harm to baby or mother)... but i think a large majority of them will do what they think is best in that situation... so we just have to have some element of trust in their decision... that's all i have to say...

Dr Elsa of City Hospital is prolly the only Indian doctor that I would trust with my body. Natural delivery with no stitches.. she rules!! :) Dunno Dr. Grace, but know a lot of other desi OBGYNs.. And not one an beat Dr. Elsa in terms of her work and also her manner. And she is definitely not condescending like most of them :) (sorry, am a self appointed promoter of Dr. elsa!:))

I did... I didn't have Dr. Grace. My Dr was Dr Andrea. She made me really calm and IMH is a fab hospital. I loved it.. If you have specific questions, please ask and I will tell you S

Hey! I met Dr. Grace. I was not pleased, but this is my opinion. I went to TDMMC to "screen" her as my possible new OBGYN. I actually told her that and that I was a first time mom and was very worried about a lot of things. That I wanted to ask her a bunch of questions to see whether she would be right for me. Her persona changed immediately. She became very short, was not very informative and when I asked her about natural birth vs. epidural, her only answer was, we'll see when the time comes. Not too reassuring because I also wanted to be with someone who advocates natural birth too. I was turned off by her completely. She was also very short when she did the US and did not say anything to me, just some info to her nurse while she scanned. I had to ask if everything was ok! :O! Like I said, this is my opinion and I would not tell anyone to go or not to. I personally have had only bad experiences with Indian female docs because for some reason, they always think I am "challenging" them when I ask questions which is of course not the case. Dr. Grace wasn't as welcoming as I would have expected. Also of note, she is supposed to have very strange office hours between IMH and TDMMC. If you can, try to get some recs for Dr. Wael. He is supposed to be wonderful in natural births and also delivers at IMH. Best of luck oof course. I am still searching for my dream doc. :)
