Will has a 50/50 mix of growing-up formula and soy, as he still can't tolerate full-lactose formula. The growing-up formula is meant for toddlers 1 to 2 years old. You're welcome to try some when we get back and see if Her Ladyship likes it! x

Thanks kiwispiers! DD's doc said the same about follow on formulas, thats why we have kept her on stage 1. I think I'll probably stick to the formula then, at least till the end of the year. We have a lot of travel approaching so I don't really want to make a huge change right in the middle of that.

Its OK to give from 12 months to save yourself money, although formula is still better designed to meet babies' needs. (and actually "from birth" formulas are considered better than "follow-on" formulas by many Drs, as they are the most like breastmilk) Likewise its safe to give lower fat from 2-3 years, but not earlier, many vitamins etc are fat soluable, and growing kids need fat anyway. So anyway, full-fat, and fresh (not UHT) if possible, and if you can manage that AND organic, even better.

Hmmm, hard decision, although until reading this thread I've never thought about when to switch. I never went to the 2nd stage of formula so not sure if I would go for a toddler formula or cows milk. I might ask DD'd doctor what she suggests?

Again, it's entirely up to you. From what I understand of UK recommendations, it's safe to switch them to cow's milk at 12 months but some mums choose to carry on with toddler formula until 2 or 3.

When should I change DD to cows milk? At 12 months? She is 10.5 months and has been fully FF...

it's entirely up to you. Organic milk has apparently been proved to have something silly like 3 times the amount of Omega-things in it, compared to normal milk and that's what we drink in the UK where there's now only a few pence difference. Here though, I find organic milk prohibitively expensive - we get through about 2l of milk a day! Do though, stick to full-fat milk for the moment. We only drink full-fat in house house anyway, so it's normal for us, but toddlers need the goodness that comes from it. Some doctors/ people advise switching to low-fat when they're 2, but I personally think that's a load of rubbish because if the family's worried about obesity, maybe they should cut out the fat-laden junk-food first. [cue image of pudgy kid sat in front of the telly noshing a big bag of crisps with a glass of milk, but hey, it's low-fat - part of a healthy, balanced diet!'>
