Hi Ladies

I have a big problem, 12 week old DD doesn't like to be placed in the car seat or the pram. I think it's because we kept her at home during the first 11 weeks of her life due to her severe silent reflux. Now that she is getting better, we'd like to resume some normality in our lives and actually leave our house once in a while - hubby and I are going crazy and I would like our LO to experience new things too. Her paediatrician has also advised we should take her out more often now that she is better.

However, she screams every time we put her in the car seat (pricey one from Mamas & Papas) which I have lined with really soft sheepskin from Oz. She cries within 15 mins of being in her pram when we go for walks in the late afternoon. I suspect it could be a combination of other factors which could make her uncomfortable such as being sleepy, possible pressure on her tummy and chest, hot weather etc. What makes it even more frustrating is when we see lovely sleeping babies in their prams around the malls - why can't our DD be like that we say???!!

I figured there have to be some mummies out there who have dealt with similar issues - I would be grateful if you could share your words of wisdom.

TIA

DD is now 1 and hates to sleep in her pram, recently on vacation she had to learn the hard way to suck it up. Webought a snooze shade and kept her up until she got really cranky and then hugged her and placed her in her pram with a cuddly toy. The first few days she screamed for 10/15mins and then passed out and by the 3rd day was sucking her thumb as she was putdown. Wouldnt sleep as long in her pram but we did manage to have a really good holiday.

thanks Ladies - good to know we are not the only ones and I will certainly try all these tips. This week we have tried sitting her in the car seat during her alert times. She has been quite happy to sit in the seat and watch TV!

When you are out in the afternoon, try rocking him to sleep and then put him in the pushchair :) it might work

DS never liked his pram for outings either - no reflux, he just didn't take to it! So I'd take the Baby Bjorn with us and he'd end up in that. Maybe he liked being upright and seeing things, or close to me, I don't know. But I couldn't walk round a mall or park with him screaming his head off so that was it. When he was a bit bigger and able to sit up more in his stroller, he was quite happy to be in there. Car seat I'm afraid I can't help with. I often ended up driving home bawling just as much as he was - for some reason I could never stand to hear him scream in the car!

My daughter had bad reflux and she never slept in her pram....my husband and I still look at babies sleeping in push chairs and feel envious and she is now 27 months!! She did love sleeping in the car seat but would scream for around 15/20 mins in the car before she would sleep!! So if I was going out to a mall I would drive around until she slept and then lift the seat out onto the pram base and she would usually stay asleep. My daughter never really slept in her cot until we got the medication right so I either had her sleeping upright on my shoulder or had her out in the car when she was little. If I was just out for a walk with her in the pram I would also take the baby carrier (we had baby bjorn) so if she cried I would take her out and pop her in the carrier, then she would be happy for another 15 mins or so and after that I just carried her if she cried. She loved being carried stomach down on my husbands arm when she was little, the pressure on her stomach seemed to help. If went went out for a meal and she cried we would just take turns at taking her out while the other one ate, dont stop going out it, will pass and you will find new ways to deal with it. We found we need to get out of the house and be normal again even if we had to deal with a screaming baby sometimes. A little crying never hurt any baby so dont worry - its just a matter if figuring out what she likes, reflux babies have very specific needs. They are more more work but once you figure them out you can get out of the house no problem. I hope that helps a little bit, I think its just a matter if taking tips from everyone and seeing what best suits your daughter thats what we did. Good luck and just remember it doesnt last forever!
