Is there anywhere I might find a decent bike helmet for DS over here? I've just been looking on the Halfords site in the UK but they take four days to deliver and Mum leaves on Sunday. It'd need to be the same safety standards as back home. Any suggestions?

DH is a bike fanatic so we got ours at Wolfies on SZR. We think it was around 150aed (can't remember exactly). But, regardless of where you buy it, I think the most important thing you need to do is to ensure that it is the corrrect fit, that it fits relatively snuggly on your DS's head. We made sure that the straps were adjustable in a number of places. This means at the back (ours has a little dial) to ensure the lining adequately cradles the base of the head. Then you need to ensure where the front and back straps on each side of the head that create a 'v' shape to join in a clip on the side of the face (I hope that makes sense!), that those clips rest just below each ear, and then obviously the front clip that ties the helmet is fully adjustable. Ours has a good amount of coverage/padding, on the pressure points (where the helmet rests on their little heads) for comfort and to ensure no irritation while they are wearing it. Second most important thing, is that it is super styley, so he looks great in photos!!! HTH

Hmmm. The ones I was looking at on the Halfords site were around 15-20 pounds - do you think they'll be rubbish? DH is seriously safety-conscious (ex-fire service) so I know he'll want a good one. I have no clue what I'm looking for! Any tips much appreciated.

I saw a Thomas the Tank one on the weekend... now to remember where! I went to Mirdiff CC and Dubai Mall. I am racking my brain as to the shop... I'll come back to you! But I know they were toddler size cos we got one in the UK and brought it back, then I saw this TT one and thought it was just typical. I'd lugged one back from the UK and there in Dubai was a Thomas one which would have been perfect! I'll keep thinking! You know, I think it was C4. But they were the same as the ones I'd seen in the UK, so I'm sure the standard was as you would expect. I'll keep thinking, but I think that may well have been the place. And as for price - They are pricey in the UK too, but worth every single penny. (One I bought in UK was about £35, which I thought was pricey) But I know from personal experience about the utter importance of wearing a helmet.
