Finger sucking can cause dental problems later on but in the first two years its ok (like thumb sucking and dummies).
Maybe give him some finger foods to play with a mealtimes and make sure you talk to him/sing to him during his meal. Also don't rush him or get visibly annoyed that the meal is taking too long, if he does it as a calming mechanism then the more tense you get the more he will need to do it.
Not that much help I know, there are solutions you can pint on kids thumbs to stop them thumb sucking but I'd be a bit wary at his age as he will need to put his fingers in his mouth as part of the learning to eat process.
Thanks for your comments..but unfortunately it interferes with his feeding and activity time..whenever he tries to do something and it gets hard instead of going at it...he just gives up and sucks his two fingers...
If it's getting in the way of feeding then give him a spoon to play with while feeding or something he can hold in his hands so that they are too busy and he's too distracted to put in his mouth.
Regarding putting his fingers in his mouth when something is hard, it maybe his way of building his confidence to try and tackle the situation or his way of regrouping and analysing the situation so he can figure out how to do it. Not everyone tackles things in the same way some jump right in the water, others dip a toe in to test it first while others wade in gradually.
I think trying to stop him sucking his fingers before he's ready could be detrimental to him, however I am not an expert.
My son sucks his two fingers still at almost 4. I was thrilled when he started self-soothing this way at about 4 months. It is a comfort to him still, although he only does it when he is tired and going to sleep - not all the time.
There is no harm in it. I wouldn't worry about it.

My 13 month old baby sucks his two fingers and I really want him to STOP this habit....
It all started when he was about 4 months old...we had started to give him a pacifier and when my mum visited, she decided to stop it...unfortunately he resorted to sucking his two fingers...I have tried putting a bandage but he takes it off ....the doctor says to distract him but its NOT working....
Please help!!!
