Following received today:

Dear Parents

Back in December we notified you of an incident that had occurred around the Emirates Hills area, regarding a female student from Dubai British School who was approached by man in a car. Fortunately, a parent was passing and escorted the girl to a group of friends.
This time I am writing to let you know about another incident that occurred last weekend. A WIS Student was approached whilst riding his bike on the way to meet friends at the park in the Meadows.
The man, who was of Asian descent and also on a bike asked the boy to come back to his home with him. Fortunately, following the warnings in December, the parents had already Instilled in their son the dangers of going off with strangers and he sped off to find his friends. Eventually the man gave up and went away. This incident was reported both to the Police and the Security at the Meadows.

Please be vigilant at this time and again reinforce in your children that they should never go off anywhere without your knowledge, or get into a stranger's car. It is also safer for them to stay together in groups when they are out. Should you witness a similar incident, please contact both the Police and the school.

I dont know whether asking hurts or helps, but two men physically touched this girl, she screamed, and no one did anything? Did they take off running? So many questions, one would think they could have been caught in this instance?

Do they ever catch these people? The mom at union co-op saw the men and screamed. There must have been people around. What do they do here for "attempted" kidnappers?

This is so scarey! To think they were bold enough to do it right infront of the mum. Thank God the child is safe but its really worrying....

That is truly terrifying. Not to hijack, but how do you teach your kids about stranger danger without scaring the pants off them? I try to be hyper diligent with mine, but you can't watch them every second.

Whilst I try to educate my DD about this...does anyone know if the schools are doing any campaigns etc about this kind of thing? I, like so many others have chosen to stay here and bring up our children believing it is safer! This serves as another reminder that no where is completely safe:(

This is a real incident and the mom has followed up with some details: XXXX was just a few metres in front of me outside a busy bustling supermarket and I can only assume it was an opportunistic attempt, that thank God, was unsuccessful. The most surprising thing to me was it was swift, slick and without communication. Two men flanked her and (forcefully & purposefully) swept her towards the exit. It was in a split second and only by the Grace of God, did I see and scream. Got that letter from the school yesterday too and it is scary. There are so many things going on here and but we don't know. Always be vigilant and never assume anything.

We all need to be aware and careful Another warning yesterday from a different school: Serious Incident at Union Co-op Dear Parents, One of our parents has brought a serious incident to our attention regarding the recent attempted abduction of a child. The incident took place at Union Co-Op on Al Wasl Road on Sunday afternoon; it has been reported to the police who are investigating the matter. Please be assured that we will continue to remain rigorous in our approach to all aspects of site safety and security at school. Whilst Dubai is generally recognised as a relatively safe environment it is clear that high levels of vigilance are required from us all. Yours sincerely, Head Teacher 5 March 2012

It doesn't really matter. ANYONE approaching children and asking such things is wrong. Seems to be alot of this going on lately. People incorrectly assume the UAE is a safe place. Everyone should be on their guard.
