Hi All,

We are due to have a baby in October and my husband and I both hold different passport nationalities.

Neither of the Embassies are in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. But the embassies are in Cairo, Egypt.

Is it possible to get an emergency travel document for a new born baby to travel to Egypt to get a passport?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Yup we did it (but it actually WAS an emergency) We left when DD was 5 weeks. DH had the paperwork sorted in 24 hours. The emergency exit document is only valid for travel on the specific day and flight you book, so you have to book your flights and have tickets first. Sorry i cant help the OP though! Can you call the embassy in Cairo and ask?

That would have been so much better than faffing around with the application here and waiting to get it back :(. And I'd have been able to go home and see everybody :(. :( :( :( Pants!

Apparently so, our friends did it last summer. It's an 'Emergency Travel Document', which means you can leave the UAE, but you can't get back in, so you need to sort out the passport back in the UK (we plan to do it in a day at the Passport Office in London). On the website it says that you need a valid emergency to travel on an Emergency Travel Document, but our friends said that having a newborn without a passport is one of the valid reasons! We need to look into it more as our little one is due in 4 weeks now and we plan to fly 4 weeks after that.

You can get an emergency travel document just to get back to the UK to get baby's passport?! I wish I'd known that - I didn't go home in Feb as I was still waiting for DD's passport and I figured they wouldn't have classed not having a passport as an emergency :(. Grrrrr!

It depends on the embassy I think. You can get Emergency Travel Document through the British Embassy for a British newborn to travel back to UK and get their passport sorted there (we plan to do this) - but you would have to call / visit / go online to your embassies to find out if that is the case with yours.

not possible to apply it online? like british passports, it's applied in uk so the forms are available online to be mailed to the uk to be processed.
