morning,

I've searched cause I know this has been done a few times but I'm obviously not putting in the right terms as no threads are coming up so... can you share your best tips for flying alone with a mini toddler? what have you found has kept them entertained and stopped them from running amok down the aisle (I'm going to try and save that for the last hour or so!)

Thanks

I know I'm probably over thinking it and I actually recognise that[b'> it'll be over in a day even if it's awful,[/b'> but it always helps to get tips from the been there done that crowd! thanks for your suggestions That's EXACTLY what I tell myself every time. No matter how bad it is, the next day it's finished. ;) I hope you have a great flight. :D

To be honest, it's not that hard to entertain them. The crew will give her a little pack with colouring pencils and a soft toy etc; if she's even vaguely interested in TV you can kill short spurts of time with the great in-flight entertainment system; take her for a few walks up the aisle so you can both stretch your legs; my kids love a scrap book, crayons and stickers and that keeps them going for hours; a new non-noisy toy and picture book are a good idea too. If you have an Android phone, there's a great app for toddlers called "Toddler Lock"...just pretty shapes, drawing and music and they can't accidentally get out of it and delete all of your photos. ;) Not sure if it's available for i-anything. My biggest tip is to be clear from the word go that she is to be sitting and strapped in at all times. Just like a car seat, she may fight it, but it makes life SO much easier (and safer) if she learns early how to travel on a plane. Meals for children are generally laden with over-processed, sugary rubbish so be sure to hide the little box when the meal comes and have your own healthy snacks on hand for after main course. I cannot stress enough...spare clothes and three times as many nappies as you think you'll need!!! I hope you won't need them, but take it from me, they'll get diarrhoea or the vomits when you are least prepared and that makes for a very unpleasant flight! ;)

that was my list when I travelled with DS when he was 1 y.o.: - toys (few of them that he/she didn't see) and show them one at the time - crayons/paper/coloring books - snacks (fruits, raisins, biscuits...) - video player with favorite cartoons/programs - spare clothes for me and him in case of spills & etc.

Hi, I have travelled heaps with my daughter who is now 19 months, and the last flight also included my son who is 4 months. I didn't book a seat for her any of the times, but have usually been lucky enough to get an extra seat once on the plane, or be seated in the bulkhead area - so she could play on the floor. I would call the airline before you travel and request this if you can. In addition to the snacks and toys that have already been suggested I took my laptop so she could each her favourite program (Curious George). Colouring in books and crayons and a pencil case (amazing how many times she took the crayons in and out!). I also bought a mini mega scetcher, and some magnetic boards, stickers. And a book about travelling on a plane which also had stickers! Hope this helps - if I think of anything else I will edit this post :-) Good luck - it won't be as bad as you think! Claire x

wat always worked with me with my dd is flying bussiness class. wen we reach airport she just plays way to much in he lounge at hte airport so she used to get so tired that she used to have a long nap in the plane n if u r flyin bussiness class she get more room in the area as very few travel n hence she is able to move around without disturbin. a bag full of toys n little munchin snacks which she can eat on her own with her hands have helped me in the first two years.

If you can afford it buy a seat for them and take an airline approved carseat, or chance it and hope that there is an empty seat that they can block for you at check-in. Having them strapped in to a seat makes the biggest difference imaginable as they are used to the idea that when they are in the car they stay put. Biggest entertainer for my wee guy is food, things like sultanas that he can eat one by one slowly. We just survived 20 hours of flying (including a 14 hour flight) and it wasn't too painful, but we managed to get a seat blocked, had a huge bag of new toys to get out one by one, lots of food and an iphone loaded with baby apps.
