We flew with our DD to Oz when she had just started solids but was still relying on formula as her main meal. We had a large bag totally devoted to hot water, cool boiled water, formula, solids in jars and also a large range of medication she was taking at the time.
We had absolutely no problems at all and I am really surprised at this because Customs in Oz is one of the most strictest in the world.
Do everything you can to go prepared but if for whatever reason they take the water off you, you can always buy bottled water once through security and you can also get hot water from cafes, lounges and on the plane itself. I kept one bottle of formula made up and carried it with me throughout the journey (obviously creating new batches to keep them fresh) to use in emergencies.
With regard to your carrier - just be aware that you will be asked to take your baby out and put the carrier through the xray. We found this terribly annoying as we were carrying lots of bags but there's not much you can do about things like that.
Thanks, that's good to know!! I'll just go ahead as normal and at worst buy some water once through but it doesn't sound like I will need to. I have heard this is the easiest time to travel with a little one and so I hope all goes well. My little angel rarely cries and if she does it lasts about 20 seconds at the most while I settle her so I honestly don't know what i'd do if she decided to have her first proper meltdown on the flight!!! ;) I'm sure I had another question, but true to form, my baby brain has got the better of me and I can't remember what it was!
Just pack as many bottles pre-filled with your cooled boiled water as you will need for the flight. Baby bottles are allowed through security. You may or may not be asked to taste it. I just used to shake a bit out into my mouth (without touching the teat of course) and than always seemed to satisfy. Good luck, this is the easiest time to fly with your wee one!
To be honest I have found that sometimes the airports are relaxed and other times they aren't - it's hit and miss. I have often taken in bottles of water without even realising it and not been stopped. I find Dubai airport is less strict than say Heathrow, but other people might tell you otherwise. In any case, you are allowed to take water for feeding babies, what they usually do is ask you to do is taste it in front of security, that's what I had to do flying back from Heathrow last month.
I would take your water with you and see how it goes, you just have to explain to security and offer to taste it. At worst they just take the water from you and you will have to buy from the airport.
Hello,
I am sure this has been done a lot before but I need some advice on the flight aspect of travelling with a 4 month old. I have a carrier for the airport so I'm comfortable in transporting her through security to the flight. My question arises when it comes to feeding. My little girl is bottle fed...so...., how do I get my cooled boiled water through security?! Do I just have to accept that for the airport and flight feedings she will have to be fed with bottled water which I can buy once I am through security?! Sorry if this seems like such a basic question but I just can't picture how its done.
Thanks very much!
