Good morning,

I am currently in Cyprus my husband is a serving member of the RAF and we are based on a British military camp here. He is going to London for a job interview tomorrow for a job in Abu Dhabi, part of the package includes a 3 bed apartment 'in Abu Dhabi city' I was just wondering if there are any areas of the city that are not so nice to live in? he has more or less been guaranteed the job so I just wanted to get a bit more information :). I have a. 3 year old and a 5 month old and am very worried about been isolated as he will be away 4 days a week. Is there plenty of activities and groups to do with young children? Also how much is the average cost to buy a small car and how much is tax, insurance etc? Sorry for all the questions I am just a bit anxious as this has all happened in the last 24 hours and is a lt to take in. Thanks in advance for your help

We live on similar here in Cyprus and cost of living is high we still manage to go out for meals and family days out etc. I would like the kids to do activities etc but am quite happy to spend nights at home with the odd evening out. Thanks very much for your reply it does help. It is a big decision, and is nice to hear people's opinions before we commit to anything :)

Personally speaking i feel that is a really low salary for him I do suppose it depends on your outgoings ( Do you like to socialise, go out for dinner and live a pretty decent life?) To me that is the whole point of being here You don't pay road tax on cars here and insurance is a percentage of the car cost however you have to pay it up front here ( Not in installments as in the Uk) Ideally i feel USD10,000 is an appropriate salary to live on ( plus the other added benefits) The cost of living here is much more expensive than the UK ( Clothing, food, eating out, alcohol etc is more expensive than home) However petrol isnt I cannot comment on monthly utility bills as we only pay water and electric Internet is expensive as are the TV channels I go out here much more than i would i home and although i am not a huge spender i like to have a good quality of life as we have the weather here Other posters will tell you differently however it depends on what life you and your family want.

It is very stressful moving from one foreign country to another :-s the package my husband has been offered comes with 3 bed apt, medical, flights, visas, schooling and transport allowance along with money salary of 6500 USD in your opinion is that enough to live on? I will be a stay at home mum

Dont worry about any area being 'not so nice' in regards to being not safe, we are very lucky here to live in one of the safest places in the world. Lots of issues that you may find in other places, just do not happen here (street crimes, gangs etc). Abu Dhabi is not a huge city, public transport is clean and reliable, taxis are resonably cheap and in plentiful supply. Its easy to get around here.

Thanks in advance for your help hi, 3 bed apartment in the city well it could be anywhere, there are lot of areas as most of the city is full of apartments, if on island you will not be isolated, if you are put in the new area called al reem then you will be isolated as its brand new, infrastructure isnt finished and will take time. you can rent a small car, yaris in the first instance, maybe for nearly 2000 dhs a month, that includes insurance, tax etc. if you wanted to buy then you would have to factor that on top, insurance is quite expensive here because of the "brilliant" drivers
