So I'm having a baby girl in Aug and both my hubby and I love the name Caris (from our favorite book). Is it too unusual? My son's name is James. I don't want her to constantly have to explain how to pronounce it etc as it is a bit weird. What you guys think?

Thanx all, we really like it and we aren't gonna tell anyone till we meet her and see if it suits her :)

its a beautiful name... :) as OP suggested be careful of who you share this name with. when we were searching names for ds my inlaws used to say its good to me and then to my dh that this name is not good!! finally just few days before delivery i came across a name while reading a book. we liked it so much and didn't shared with anybody. just told when he was born. although my MIL is not happy and has her own name to call him which doesn't bothers me. go with the one which you like afterall you'll be calling the given name atleast 30 times a day! :D

I have not heard of it before in this spelling but is it the same as Cerys (which I recognize as a Welsh name)...? I think it's very pretty and feminine.

I have never heard that name before, does it rhyme with Paris? It looks like a pretty name, as I have never heard it before I guess I have no negative associations, which is usually the reason people dont like names. If you and your husband both love it, you are probably on to a winner.

I like Caris and it's not too unusual or hard to spell. I agree with not telling anyone. We're keeping the names we've picked a secret as well because evtybody has an opinion! Just be careful not to tread on toes if you are expected to name you LO after family members and don't want to do that

I think it's a lovely name, and if you like it, go for it. She'll probably get carrie, which I also like. Do you like it shortened? Also how does it go with your family name! Personally I found naming my LO harder than anything. Such a responsibility. I envied those ladies that knew what they were having and had it all sorted out in advance (although Ill still not find out the *** next time as I loved the surprise). Be careful who you ask for their opinion. For eg my husband told my MIL my favourite name on speakerphone. She said it was horrible, and then realised I was on the phone and tried to backtrack. It changed my perspective on the name and we didn't choose it. I still love it and wish I'd not told anyone and just used it anyway.
