Hi Ladies,

Just found out at the weekend that I'm pregnant (after taking 4 pregnancy tests just to make sure!!!).
I called Dubai Medical Centre today to make an appointment with Dr. Grace but she's on holidays and doesnt have any appointments until end May (think I`ll be around the 9 weeks then).
Should I go to another gynaecologist for 1st appointment and then go to Dr Grace when she's back, or just wait until she's back? Just afraid if I go to another doc then I will have to stay going to see her throughout the pregnancy?!?!
1st pregnancy so I really havent a clue and have loads of questions!!
Thanks!

Hi Eireann11, First of all congrats! With regards to your question, I think it all depends on personal circumstances but based on my personal experience I would suggest you visit any Dr you can get an appointment with relatively soon to confirm the pregnancy and to tell you if "structrurally" things look good. I had what is called a 'chemical pregnancy' once and the Dr told me it is imprortant to catch these things early because they can cause serious bleeding for instance. A more difficult case could be an ectopic pregnancy which though not common can have serious implications for the mother and is easier to treat when identified early. Not meaning to scare you, chances are you'll have a wonderful healhy pregnancy, I just personnally would try to see a Dr by week 8 at the latest just to confirm things are looking ok. I changed Drs around week 8, nothing saying you need to stick to the first one you go to, unless of course you are comfortable with them and they deliver where you'd like to have your baby. Ideally you'll be with the Dr you want by week 12 when they do the first important scan.

Congratulations! You should go and see any doc for now as you need to prove to the insurance company that you're now pregnant so any treatment you may need is covered. The doc will do a quick blood test to confirm it. Then after a few weeks you should start researching which Obgyn you want to go with and make an appointment with them. Good luck!

Firstly, you don't even need to see a doctor at all right now. What you must do is start taking folic acid supplements if you have not already. Because this is Dubai and most pregnant women get frequent scans, I'm betting that you'd like one too, and I can't blame you. So I think you should go to another gynecologist at the same clinic right now until Dr. Grace comes back. Just open up a file with her now and when you book your June appointment, ask for it to be with Dr. Grace. You don't need to give any explanations. There is a pregnancy and baby forum for all your questions. :-) edited by AnonDubai on 29/04/2013
