Thanks Cleo . I am going through a similar phase with my 13 month old right now. You just saved me a tripmo his paediatrician. I do not force feed and he still is on Bf so I offer that if he is not eating at all. He loves scrambled eggs and that's the only thing he will eat full and pumpkin too. But it's very irritating sometimes cooking different meals only to eat 4-5 times :)

My paediatrician gave me wonderful advice and I still follow it with my 2 1/2 year old. Kids will go through phases where you will think they're on a starvation diet. If they are a healthy weight, 3-4 bites at mealtime is sufficient (according to my dr). When children are hungry they WILL eat and will never allow themselves to starve. He also told me never force feed. Offer the meal, if he eats great- if not, let it be. But no in between snacking and that includes milk & juices, because they fill you up. I've used this advice on numerous occasions and my son will go through his phases (foods he loved- will no longer touch- go through days without eating anything...) but he always comes around. I just try to make sure that whatever little he does eat is always quality food. Junk food is just not a part of my household so be it fruit/vegg/protein/healthy fats- even if my son takes 2 bites, its 2 bites of quality. If your son is healthy otherwise, I wouldn't stress about it too much, he'll come around :)

Given his age, I wouldn't worry about spoon feeding him purees any longer. Offer a variety of healthy foods that you eat in bit sized pieces and let him decide what and how much he wants. If he really likes something, you'll know it: he'll gobble it up and eat more if you offer it. Don't worry about the playing with it--that's part of the exploration process.

Will he self-feed table foods? Sometimes.. I made him a cheese sandwich the other day.. He ate a few pieces and started playing with it.. Its a bit tricky I can't really tell what food he likes aside from bread.. He loves it..

are you giving him lots of milk to make up for lack of solids? if so, he may just be too full at mealtimes...or he might be teething (molars?)...they go through phases. if you are very worried, check with your doctor. Yeah.. He drinks twice 220ml milk one in the morning and one at night.. I try to feed him but if he doesn't finish his food I give him his pediasure.. And that's it.. Almost all his teeth are out.. He started teething a bit early at 5mos.. Do u think I should be worried?? I also give him vitamins.. His my first baby and I don't have any family around.. All my friends are single as well.. :(

Ok it started a month back when he got sick and he only needed to eat porrige.. But now ever since he got better he doesn't want to eat anymore.. He only likes bread and fruits.. I got him pediasure chocolate flavoured one just to be sure he gets all the supplements he needs but I'm very worried. Everytime I give him chicken he spits it out. Hipp, he only likes rissoto but the one is jars (7mos+) but nost of the times he only eats 5 small bites.. any suggestions on what should I do??
