When your babies are teething? Personally, I have always been against medication when it comes to myself but when I see my LO crying in the middle of the night from teething pain, I wonder if I should give something? But then, do I give it EVERY night? It wouldnt bother me from time to time but every night until these darn teeth come through seems like a lot of baby parcetamol... :(

Just wondering what other parents do?

Haven't had to resort to pain relief for teething yet but I suppose it may happen soon. I'd say don't worry about giving pain medication when needed, I asked a few Drs and though so far I've only used Panadol a few times when DD had high fever they told me that hypothetically speaking even if you had to give it everyday for a long period of time it would not harm the child. So I'd say if your baby is sufferring and can't sleep give it, if it goes on for more than a few days though perhaps you should check if there is some other reason for the discomfort, just in case?

I do agree it wont hurt and its a phase but is it acceptable every night until her teeth come through ...........? I had Adol drops. Pink stuff. But whatever works for your child, go for it. I didn't give it every night, only when my child was in pain and couldn't sleep. Don't worry about this. I would worry more about the bad air they breathe here in Dubai. Puts things in perspective ;-)

Like you, I used to struggle with the idea of giving my daughter medication for teething. She struggled terribly and would pinch herself and bang her head against the floor and wall in despair. I caved in the end and gave her paracetamol when really needed (mostly at night) because it was obvious she was distressed by it. It was amazing how much better she would feel within 20 minutes of having the medication, she would be like a different child! A doctor once told my sister that Its completely safe to give Paracetemol when needed even if it meant they were having it every night for a short period of time whilst the teeth broke through. If you are concerned though just ask your doctor or check at the chemist :) My son is teething now too, I am dreading this stage... Lol

I gave mine Adol whenever necessary. It's a phase and you won't hurt your child when you give it pain relief when it's hurting from teething.

Thanks Catherine Abigail, We can get through the teething during the day as I manage to give her cold things and some homeopathy so we can manage during the day but its at night time when it seems to bother her the most. She wakes up every night and cries (which she never does usually) and cannot get back to sleep. I have been trying to console her for the last week of nights and it was taking up to 2.5hrs to get her back to sleep so she has been very tired during the day. However, one night I gave her baby paracetamol and she fell right back to sleep.....

I used to put a wet washcloth in the freezer and give the baby the frozen washcloth to nibble on. The ice numbs the baby's gums a bit.
