I'm about 12 weeks pregnant and having extremely horrible ALL day nausea and morning sickness ever since week 5 while throwing up an average of about 3-4 times daily.

The other day I vomited 8 times and the last time I vomited some blood. I freaked and called the doctor and they told me that this was a dangerous condition and they prescribed Zofran for me to take daily. I haven't gained any weight with this pregnancy yet, I've actually lost about 4 pounds, but I honestly didn't think anything of it. I feel so stupid that I didn't say anything sooner. I just assumed getting sick like this came with the package of being pregnant. I now realize that nothing I ate (which wasn't a lot to begin with) probably got absorbed and now I'm worried about my baby. I'm also worried about the side effects of Zofran, has anybody taken it and been fine? and baby is fine?

I mean I realize my doctors wouldn't prescribe something bad for me and the baby, but the irrational side of me can't help but worry. I'd just love some reassurance from some mamas that have been through something similar.

Thank you so much Ladies! Yes, Zofran has started to do its magic and I feel much relieved now. But guess I'll have to continue taking it cause the day I reduce / skip the dose, I am again miserable with throwing up all the time. I'm happy that it's a safe drug and can be taken till conditions demand. God bless you all! x

Hi AHS I'm glad you're happy now. I was prescribed Zofran during my first pregnancy because, like you, I vomited all the time and was hospitalised twice with hyperemesis and put on a drip to rehydrate me. I took Zofran from early on (about wk 7) until the end of the second trimester when the vomiting stopped. The baby was fine (3.5kg) and so was I. I hope it's working for you. It's dreadful feeling so sick all the time.

Be careful with maxalon....I suffered major tetanic requiring hospilisation after taking it in my early 20's. I threw up throughout entire pregnancy - morning, noon and night, gained no weight at all but baby was 4kg. I was a healthy weight as an athlete before conceiving...seemed to do neither baby nor I any harm. It is awful to feel so bad. If I had to g through this again I would go the acupuncture route. edited by Buddha on 29/06/2014

Thank you so much for your replies. Though this post was viewed over 200 times, but no replies made me sad... lol But now, I'm happy :) I used Navidoxine for 5 days but it seemed to be too calm for me with no change in the state. I'm also close to 14weeks but still experiencing terrible nausea (I like to joke that I didn't just get morning sickness... I got morning-noon-and-night sickness!) :D I have tried many natural remedies (ie. ginger ale/tea, Vitamin B6, etc.) Nothing worked. So my doctor put me on Zofran. I read over the Internet that the FDA classified Zofran as a pregnancy category B drug, meaning it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Also, regarding my weight, early in my first trimester I asked my doctor about weight gain/loss (I was worried about this, because I am so nauseous, nothing really stays inside). She told me that there's no hard and fast rule for average pregnancy weight gain in first trimester. She said some women gain weight, some maintain a stable weight, and some women lose weight (she added that those who lose weight usually do so because of terrible nausea and vomiting, making it hard for them to eat food and keep it down). She told me not to worry about my weight during first trimester, and to expect that in second trimester my stomach would calm down, making it much easier to maintain a balanced, nutritious diet. I hope it happens sooner than later and the sickness is killing at times. Anyways, thanks again ladies. All the best & good luck for your wonderful journey of pregnancy :) God bless! edited by AHS on 29/06/2014

Hi, I'm a Dr myself & went through severe morning sickness, I'm now 14weeks. I was unable to acquire Maxalon here (Metoclopramide 10mg 3xdaily), but got some in UK recently. This is safe in pregnancy if you can get some. Here I obtained Navidoxine, which you can take 3 x daily also and is safe in pregnancy. It was very effective, but I had to try 3 pharmacies to get some. Good luck!! (so successful that I'm gaining too much weight... you can't win lol)

I found this article dated from Nov 2013. Ask your Dr if there is an alternative [url=http://www.fertilitycenter.com/fertility_cares_blog/fda-warns-against-zofran-use-in-pregnancy/'>link[/url'> Mine prescribed Maxolon 10mg 3 times a day. I haven't taken it yet as am trying more natural ways to beat the nausea but I'm not vomiting as often as you are.
