Hi You willbe fine at the Welcare. I arrived in Dubai 28 weeks pregnant with my twins and saw Dr Sant there (she now runs her own clinic at Primavera Medical in Health Care City). The hospital was great and the maternity ward was largely staffed by really friendly South African staff. My babies needed special care and once again the nursing staff were great (not so impressed by the Dr). Dr Sant was lovely. She has worked exptensivly in the UK and Switzerland from memory and was very thorough and caring. Lots of luck. Emma

emmaH, As you are moving to AR soon, I used an OB/GYN when I was pregnant called Dr Tazyeen Faisal, and she takes appointments at the MediCentres Clinic in Motor City (just round the corner from AR). She was fantastic - she worked mostly in the UK and has just been made a fellow (i think that's the term) from the Royal Society of Obs in the UK (again, not quite sure of the correct society name, but you'll get what I mean). She delivers at the American (not sure if she goes anywhere else) and I can only go on my experience, but she was brilliant. I've had some complications a few months down the line and she has been ace with those too. She doesn't push you into a c-section (as some will here) in fact I had to persuade her to let me have one (2nd baby) as she thought I should 'give it a go naturally'. I see you have someone lined up, but if you aren't happy with them see if you can get into to try Dr Tazyeen. Don't be panicked into going with the 1st Doctor you see - This isn't the NHS - you can choose who you want to use (granted, you are coming into this quite late and it's harder to get into some of the Dr's), but I transferred to her quite late on too and she was great. MediCentres MC - 04 3608866 [email protected] HTH - and good luck. I know how daunting it is to arrive here pregnant! It will all be fine.

Don't panic too much. Clearly you have been seeing someone prior to now, and everything is progressing 'normally. I didn't have a Dr set up before I arrived in Dubai at nearly 30 weeks, and I had care in NZ and the UK prior to this, I was able to get an appointment (on a Saturday so my husband could attend) the next weekend after I arrived with the OBN/GYN I wanted. Check your health insurance coverage that it includes maternity (some do not). Also check the hospitals your insurance covers as well (some have a direct payment system set up with your insurance provider, so you don't have to pay after each visit, and then claim the money back - which makes it far simpler) You will need your insurance card, and all of your records so far when you go in, but they just take your name and number before this. I would do a hospital visit to where you are thinking of registering, and make sure you like it. If you have friends who have given birth here, perhaps get some recommendations from them for who they had, otherwise if you search on here you will find some recommendations - having said that, you will note that for each recommendation, there is probably another opinion saying they had a bad experience with them! So it is really a personal choice. There may be some Dr's that are unable to take you at this late stage, if they have too many patients, but you will still definitely get someone (and it doesn't mean they are bad!). Good luck, the BB&T forum is a fantastic resource, and you will get some great advice on there as well. BTW - Welcome to Dubai!

You will use a mailing address anyway, so don't worry about that. Crikey, I never reached beyond 32 weeks in a pregnancy, I would be slightly concerned. Y I K ES aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh! Thanks for that SQ!! ha ha ha

They usually just need your phone number and you can put your current address. Then when you move, just call reception and update. Its very straight forward and millions years a head of the hassle of NHS. You'll see when you start using the system, you can't believe how helpful and easy it is. Daunting at first - sure. But count your lucky stars. Good luck.

No questions in particular other then the usual - name, address etc But you are very far a long now so they will/should fit you in asap. Where are you coming from? Because take a long all your records for your pregnancy. Your scans, maternity health pack (if its the UK - that folder you get from Bounty) etc. Then the nurse/doc at your first visit will photocopy and go through everything. I can recommend the American (its where I went)- all 3 obny/gyn docs are amazing so I'd say just go with whoever can fit you in. The other Hospital that many recommend is City.

I don't think they'll ask you much over the phone, just be persistant about getting an appointment. All the good Dr's will be fully booked, but just push a bit, say you'll come in and wait etc. Don't take NO for an answer.

Hi Ladies, I have recently arrived in Dubai and as the title suggests im nearly 32 weeks pregnant. I have been reading the threads on the forums regarding which hospitals to go to for all things pregnancy/delivery related. I am going to phone round a few this morning to see if i can get an appointment. I just want to know what they are going to ask me so I dont sound like a complete clueless numpty on the phone....? Thanks
