annoying phone calls

Our taxi driver at the weekend offered to come and collect us after a party we were going to and, since it was in a relatively quiet area, we took his number and called him to come collect us. He did and everything seemed fine until a few hours after he dropped me home.

Then I received a txt saying 'he love me, wants merry me". I just ignored it and went to bed, putting my phone on silent as I usually do. When I woke up I had three more msgs saying the same type of thing and 5 missed calls. Now today I've had another 8 missed calls and texts. I replied and said 'please stop calling me, i don't want you to call this number again" but since then I've had more missed calls and a text saying he would come to the apartment block (where he dropped me off) and call my number so I could come outside to see him!!
I have since turned my phone off but this isn't a great solution as I can't contact anybody else when it is off! Is there a way to block a number from calling on Etisilat/blackberry? Or any other suggestions?

i have had this happen to me twice. both times the callers were wrong numbers, who then continued to call. the police were very good both times. i went to the rashidiya station (it was closest to me). the second tiime it happened the police said to me i should change my number as they thought the maybe someone malicious was giving my number out, but i couldt change it as it was a work number. and it did take me a while to go to the police as i was worried they wouldnt take it seriously, but i wish i had gone straight away as it would have saved me weeks of stress!!! good luck :)

You have his phone number and i presume you booked him through the taxi firm? If not sure they will know from his GPS where he was going etc, report him to the taxi firm and the RTA, make sure when you do tell them that if you do not get a satisfactory response from them you will take the matter to the police, stress that you are giving them an opportunity to resolve this issue and failure to do so will leave you with no alternative!

Ditto - I had the same problem kept getting calls from a guy in Qatar and I tried to call back at first and then I sent him a text message telling him to stop or I would take my phone and show his number to the police and he stopped immediately. I had rung the police and they were great, they told me no problem that I should take my phone in to them at Rashidya and so they could see the missed call numbers and they would deal with it, very helpful. Good luck !

just an update, after speaking to one of my friends who I planned to ask to answer the phone calls next time he came up with the solution of blocking sms's from the number (apparently there is a function on a blackberry for this) and diverting any busy calls to the RTA office, thus if he calls I simply need to press busy and he gets directed straight to his employer! Hopefully that should deter him! Thanks for all advice! Won't that mean that anyone who calls you and you're on another call, will get diverted to RTA? This has happened to me before, as soon as I mentioned the police it stopped. Another time I just got a guy to call him up and threaten him and that also stopped.

Just to add -- If you contact Etisalat's branch near Dubai Mall and talk to a manager and show the sms's and explain the situation, they may block the number from contacting you. They have been helpful in the past when a classmate was sending harassing sms'es to a friend of mine.

You should get a man to call him and tell him to stop- if you do not feel happy with this report him to the Al AMeen service it is confidential and they will ring him for you and tell him to stop- or you can just threaten him with this and reporting him to the RTA- he should give up after that! After that save his number in your phone under Do Not Answer or something like that and never contact him again- he will see any further contact as a come on and they you are playing hard to get- been there so I feel for you!!!

I was thinking of involving the police, but didn't know if it was serious enough or if the local police staff would simply find it amusing and not be of much help. He dropped me off at my apartment block, but luckily there are a lot of apartments in my tower and we have 24hr security so I'm not too worried about that part. I think maybe I'll try the male friend thing first. Thanks ladies.

I would definitely threaten him with the police and if he persists then do call them and report him as after all he knows where you stay. I had texts and calls from a "stalker" and it wasn't until my 16year old son (has a deep voice) answered the phone and told him where to go that it stopped but that person didn't know my address.

Mmm easy for him to turn that around and say she led him on! I;d get a male friend to pick up the next call and pretend to be your husband/father/brother and to stop calling you!

How about sending him a text telling him that if there is one more call or one more text from him you will be reporting him to the police? If he persists, then by all means go to the police and do report him!!
