We used Arabian Nights and had our car seats for the kids. A 3 yo and a 5 month old. Initially I was reluctant to take the 5 mo and they provide you with a car to take you straight to the camp. But since we took the car seats and DH was in the back with her and supporting her head we ventured and it was great. We had to pay a bit extra because we were using the seats but it was all worth it. I also think the dune bashing did wonders for baby's upset tummy.

See my comments on other thread http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=144580 and the other threads from that one, can't recommend Syed from Unique Tours highly enough, perhaps you can arrange a car just for your family, you'd then be able to take the car seats and he'll tailor-make the tour to your requirements. We had friends here in November, who only wanted the dune bashing and nothing else so he took them out in a morning, just them and did everything they asked for and theynhad a great time.

Thank you for the insight Sam. Both of our boys are major thrill seekers. The four year old can't be bothered with the little kiddie roller coasters at the mall, he wants the adult size rides. Two year old is the one going down the slide head first, on his back, or trying to jump off the top.

SIL is arriving in one week and we were hoping to do a desert tour. We have a 4 year old and 2 year old. Can we put their car seats in the desert cars? Not sure about taking car seats, as they like to fill up the 4x4s with passengers if they can, and car seats would mean less room I think. I'd also recommend if you do take the children that you DON'T take them on the dune-bashing part of the tour (as mentioned below) as it gets pretty hairy ripping about the dunes. We took my visiting teenager on safari and were grouped with a couple and their two young kiddies (2-3 years old) and the baby screamed all the way and the toddler had to stop to throw up. The driver had to slow right down for the start of the trip and then finally cut it short and took us straight to camp, so the whole group missed out. Very disappointing and a huge waste of money for the rest of us ... and not much fun for the parents of the kids either.

I went on a desert safari for dh's work do three weeks after having a c-section... I asked them to be gentle and it was great, surprisingly gentle even over the medium sized dunes. Can't remember which companynit was but they are probably all similar to each other.

Does anyone know of any such tours, and / or a place we can drive ourselves to? The usual safari tours also offer everything except the dune bashing. They usually charge the same price per pax but you go in a different truck that go directly into the camp and skip the dune bashing and you still get to enjoy the other activities, show and dinner at the campsite. Just need to clarify this when you make the booking. HTH :)
