oh h e ll. Just list their full names. Addresses, description ...they stole your money and table. If you can prove you gave the money to them and their cargo is still on the dock, maybe something could be done. who knows unless you try

I think it is just awful. They might have sold their table to someone else... Karma....

You should disclose the location of their villa and see if anyone on here can help, did they mention who they work (ed) for or anything? If they are moving back to the UK then maybe it'll be one of the big companies who packed them up, someone has to have seen something. What a shocking story, so sorry to hear that you have been so taken in.

That is a great scheme ... anyone want to buy a sofa? Yes I need one! However I can only pick up in two weeks' time, is that ok if I pay now?

Would it be worth contacting the removals companies to see if they would give you a forwarding address? If you told a little white lie and pretended to be a friend or family?

It's worth reporting to the police.

Chat to the neighbours. Go to the police station, gie them their mobile number and see if it's still active. They could track them down for you. Seriously, it's theft. Regardless of whether you were too trusting or not, theft is theft. Report it.

Well the table is solid wood and massive (have you seen the Marina tables?) and we had to find a man with a van and we were trying to sort that out. We both work very hard and a week passes quickly. We tried to collect it on Monday but they said it was inconvenient. Now I know why! When you meet a nice couple in their late 50's you hardly think that they will scam over a young couple with little children obviously working to get ahead... We are not overly trusting people. We had a Nigerian con-man rent our London home (yes through an agency that due to legal loopholes we couldn't go after) when we first moved abroad and we lost 30k in rent, damages, legal bills and repairs over a year trying to get him out. We thought we'd seen everything and it was in haste that we left as much 2500 with this couple.

Good advice ! Caveat emptor.just the words she wanted to hear. Well it is isn't it? It's a lesson learnt, a hard one and sympathy and all that but who leaves a deposit of that size to complete strangers? Quite obviously there are people who do. Is it a case of trusting your 'own' people? You should never pass money over to anyone unless you can afford to lose it regardless of colour, religion or nationality. Dubai is full of dodgy brits!

Shameless to the couple and sad that you have been done over. I would never leave any money without taking my goods. Why didnt you take the table with you when you paid them.

Speak to the neighbours before you take any action and try and find out more. Things change quickly here and may had to move. edited by jewelsmiddle on 01/04/2011

You can file a case against them. They may not have left, perhaps moved? from the land lord you can find out their names.
