Hi,
I am very new to Doha,we used to live in Singapore, we, that is myself and my husband, moved to Doha couple of months ago. I am looking to join in any cookery clubs or dinner clubs, is there a possibility to join? I would really like to receive some details.

Thank you

I belong to a cooking club. We are about 10 to 14 ladies who meet once a month. We are about 9 different nationalities. We take turn hosting a morning. The one hosting will prepare recipes from her own country. We will all cook together , a starter, main and desert andthen seat down and have lunch. It's great fun and a lovely way to make friends. We start around 9am and usually are finished by 1h30pm to pick up our children from school.

why dont you start your own Dinner Club, there is an article about it on the EW Food site. Great fun, easy to do, and very social.

The couple thing would not work for me because firstly my husband does not cook and secondly with young children at home, it would involve too much work. I like the idea of coffee mornings....been in Doha a few years now but not made friends as such as I have been caught up with kids and home. Where are u from?

Hi Maple, Well the basic idea of a cookery or a dinner club is, a group of people who get together, each couple or a person takes turn in hosting a dinner or do pot luck. Can make it as a theme night too.We can include our partners or friends, for the evening dinners, of course they have to contribute to it some way ( not financially, such as planning, cooking). If it is just ladies who are not working during the day time, and want to build up your social life, and also new to the country like me, we could meet at someones place do breakfasts or coffee.I saw a social network group that meets at different places for coffee sounds very interesting, I was wondering, how successful it might be, if you are very new to the country, if there a lot of us. It is difficult to get to know each one around a long round table. If it is at a house, then it is more free to chat. Then build up ones social life and enjoy while doing it too. It is just an Idea. But would love to try it out. :-)
