Degree Certificate Attestation - British Council?

Hi everyone

I've recently been offered a position with a large company who advised I would have to get my degree certificate attested. When I asked them what the process was my HR contact advised I would have to get the document attested by the British Council or British Embassy and then by the MOFA for the UAE. She then advised that the BC has a faster turn-around than the Embassy so off I went. A week later I skipped across to the MOFA, 'attested' certificate in tow only to be told that they wouldn't attest my certificate without the Apostille (I was like, the what now?!). Off I went home and googled this and found the procedure. So I've now got my degree certificate back with an apostille and a stamp from the BC. I'm worried that when I go to the MOFA they will insist I get a stamp from the Embassy and that this will cost me another week (perhaps they give the stamp on the spot?). Has anyone else been through this? I've seen similar threads but none directly related to this issue. Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Hi Elmpark. No, you will still need to go to the UAE embassy in London for a 'stamp'. This is the one I didn't know about (unclear instructions from HR in my new company) and this is now going to delay my start date by 15-20 extra working days. I've paid the following fees here - UK embassy attestation 180 aed, MOFA attestation 155 aed. Once you get the apostille from the FCO I think you still have to have it stamped by the UK embassy here in the UAE - I certainly did before the MOFA would entertain it. Hope this helps, all the best :)

janeyb - sorry can you explain a bit more for me. I am going to get my degree notarised in the uk by a solicitor, then I will send it to Milton Keynes, but from what you are saying could Ijust get it notarised in the uk then back here and take to the British Embassy, then ministry of foreign affairs rather than deal with London UAE embassy? Quite confused. How much does the brisih embassy cost and the ministry here?

Ok, so I went up to the MOFA this morning and was again turned away with my BC stamp. Save yourselves time and just go to the Embassy people :))

Hello! I had to go through a similar scenario for my A Level, GCSE & Uni Certificates, fortunately i did my GCSE's and A Levels in Dubai so the school attested them for me, and as for my uni certificate i had that attested at my university in the UK prior to my departure back to Dubai. The MOFA accepted these no problem and stamped them there and then. Therefore, to make a long story short, i am sure that the stamp from the BC should be sufficient, if not the BE is just around the corner from MOFA and i am sure they will do it there any then. Hope that helps :)
