I need advice for a friend please. She has left her husband and is seeking a divorce, with no contest from him. She is British, married to a muslim man, not Emirati. They married almost 30 years ago in the UK, but had their marriage renewed in the Islmaic way here in Dubai after about 10 years. I know it is a long shot, but does anyone know how to go about the divorce.....does she need to go back to the UK, or what are the procedures? Any advice is much appreciated.
TIA

I have recently met with Emma at Expatriate Law who was really clear and reassuring. I saw her about Australian Law but I am pretty sure she said that she did British law as well.

She could try contacting Alderson and Assoc who deal with divorce cases. Ask to speak/meet with Carol Alderson, she should be able to set her straight. 07 204 6752

A friend of mine was married to a muslim man, they got married here. After a few years they got divorced and she said she couldnt believe how easy it was. They just went to the courts here and applied for divorce, paid 300dhs and it was done. It was a mutual decision of course, so I think in your friends case, they will both have to agree to it for starters. I dont know if the fact that they originally got married in the UK would complicate things, but if the most recent was the sharia law marriage, then that would be a good starting point.
