Hard to say - may be a new recession on the way especially with the instability in many countries Not sure that you can read so much into hotels being busy - it has been half term -plus I was reading in one of the UK newspapers that some companies had rented rooms in Dubai to place staff during unrest in other countries

My 2 cents... I think its definitely improved as it did get pretty bad there for a while. But I think that it'll be a few more years till most people can safely say they feel more secure in their jobs. I really think it depends on the industry you're in.

For what its worth, a friend ( direct confirmation, not just friend of a friend thing) who works for a multinational, multi-services provider says their company is gearing up for an influx of at least a million people over the year into the UAE. They employ analysts all over the world and their market research points to Dubai picking up again. Not the 2007- 2008 levels but to years prior to that. A big customer of their's, Dubai's airline has upped their projections by 40 % for the year. Lots of new jobs in the market, just not the packages as before.[/quote hmm, projections keep people in jobs, or is that too cynical? Hmm, We're as cynical as they come, but when said projections are for production of perishable raw materials, which need to be in warehouses at least 2 months before actual use, then they can be relied on? Don't think anybody can make 40% increases without solid backing of data/trends.

I have to disagree with some of what has been said. I know quite a few families who are leaving soon because of recent redundancies. Heard of 2 more redundancies last week too so it's still happening. Quite a few posters on here in the last couple of weeks have said they are having to leave due to now jobs. The hotels were busy the last couple of weeks but that's because it was half term holidays but many are now not busy and there are great deals to be had. Can't comment about office space because we have not had to look. I was driving to school this morning and was wondering where everyone was on the roads - it was so quiet I wondered if I'd got my days mixed up!!!!!!!...... I think it's got a long way to go before it's back on track.....just my view though.... Agree, know a few also who are facing the chop, one poor so and so for the forth time in 16 months!

I'd love to say it has stabilised but as a double masters degree graduate with nothing but glowing references & a fair bit of experience I am struggling to find a job and don't think it is stable at all yet. Could just be me, though ;) However I would really like to be wrong!

People are more cautious, but things are improving and stablising. Things will never (?) go back to 'boom' days but getting back to pre-boom days? Definitely, Dubai is back on track. :) LOL

Not sure whether the job market has stabilised but there is a slight improvement. You don't hear people getting made redundant as much as you do before. DH has now managed to get a job back in Dubai. His been in Doha for the last six months working.
