Has anyone had problems with Du using the Selfcare and/or Du prepaid services?

I just lost about 250AED of credit overnight! I charged my phone ages ago using the Du selfcare service online. It offers the options of More Credit, More Time etc but doesn't explain what they are or that the Credit can expire (but More Time doesn't expire). I opted for More Credit. I've been into stores before and no-one explained this to me (they just said you get better value using the More Credit option).

Anyway, I've been in touch with Du about this - I have spoken to three members of staff and they all finish saying they will speak to their technical team to find out more. They have all very helpfully explained what More Time and More Credit mean, but I've explained that I needed to know this information before I parted with my money - not afterwards!

I've trawled their website and any into relating to More Credit etc only refers to re-charge cards you can by in stores. And anyway, should I have to spend that much time looking? It wouldn't be that hard to have a little box by each option that explains what they mean!

I realise now that the information on the Du 'Selfcare' page is completely insufficient to manage an account properly (if your using a pre-paid) and fails to provide enough information to allow customers to take care of themselves (and their money).

I've since been searching through the forum to see if anyone else has had this problem - perhaps more people using selfcare have postpaid accounts?

It sounds as though your phone is downloading packet data, particularly as this is happening overnight. At the start of a new month it will will be particularly bad as most updates are put on the system on a monthly basis. There is an option in settings, on your phone to disable packet data downloads; make sure that you have done this. Also, if you go to any du outlet, they can look up your phone credit usage and tell you where it went. I know that it is a bit of a hassle, but I went to the one inside Virgin in Mercato Mall, and the guy was very helpful. He will probably advise you to purchase some credit for data downloads, but I find that it works just as well to turn off the data option completely. Good luck!

From experience as a Du pre-paid user, I believe that when you choose the "more credit" option, you get additional bonus credit on top of what you've paid for BUT you get only 30 days to use the new credit you've added. Beyond that point, whatever is left will be expired and 'gone'. I learnt the hard way and ever since then, I only choose the 'more time' option, where your credit never expire. HTH.

Yes - the Selfcare page provides no information at all. I've just spent an hour on the phone to Du about it and they just said I should phone to get information. Not sure why they bother having a Selfcare page where you can supposedly manage your account without providing the vital info you need to do so. V disappointed with Du!

I'm a Du pre-paid user as well and when you re-charge Du sends you sms that your account was re-charged with xxxx amount and credit is valid for 39 days! Maybe you just deleted the message before reading it. When I buy the scratch cards, it is written on them how to re-charge and what are the terms. If you buy just the printed voucher, the options are not explained, just how to charge. I'm afraind is nothing you can do now.
