I bought Tregor eggs this morning and they are 20dhs for 6 organic+free range and 18 or 19dhs for 6 free range only, this was at Waitrose but I think it is the same everywhere.
I do buy the local Organic Fed eggs, but I am concerned that they are from battery chickens, even if they were in a shed I would feel better about them than battery hens.
But we go through 20 eggs a week so the cost of the Tregor eggs is just too much as they are around Dhs27 for 6 if I am not mistaken.
I might be willing to pay Dhs27 for 10 at the Organic Cafe to ensure that our eggs are free range organic eggs.
I am sure they can't be outside in the heat in the same way there are no cows roaming around but they could be [u'>given [/u'>free range, I should have been more specific perhaps. Organic fed eggs is a classic way of masquerading battery hens so I am really not sure about those hence my asking the question. I refuse to use battery eggs. Someone must know more about this, perhaps someone local?
There are also some organic feed hen eggs available in local supermarkets here - they are local produced eggs, and am guessing they are not marketted as free range as they are probably shed reared hens (can't really do free range here due to climate - chickens would be cooked alive in summer)..... They are cheaper and have the added benefit of not being flown thousands of miles.
Typo I meant Tregor eggs which are indeed the French ones. I did not see any dairy or eggs at the farmers market last Friday although I got there quite late, could they have sold out and packed up early?
and the Farmers Market has free range organic eggs too. Fridays, Dubai Mall, outside of Bakers & Spice. And organic yogurt, among lots of organic produce, honey, etc.
I don't know the situation here with how hens are kept here, but the French eggs you can buy in Spinneys with AB written on them are from free-range animals.
