Illegal maid - Problem for Employer??

I know all about the whole maid-on-own visa thing and how it's illegal blah blah blah. But if someone hires a live in maid who has her own visa and is therefore working illegally and the authorities find out, what happens?
Is it just the maid who gets deported?
Does anything happen to the employer?
I'm asking because we had a pretty serious issue with a particularly nasty neighbour but I just found out about his maid being illegal and now I'm wondering if his threats are all bark and no bite because without the maid he hasn't got a leg to stand on and wit the maid, well... he's hired someone illegally!

Hiring an illegal maid would be a real hedache for the employer You don t know why she runaway with that visa, cause none woul ever pay a visa and then give to the maid and tell her bye The employer will pay a fine and can be deported and loose his job

Well if they catch her working illegally, HE can be fined 50k, SHE can be fined 50K and be deported - so it's trouble all round really.

Thanks Oopsiedaisy. Don't worry... I'm not up for a tit for tat. I just want to understand the situation because the poor maid came to apologise to me. She said she sees my husband walking our dog every morning when she's walking the other people's dog and they always say good morning and nothing like this has ever happened before. But now the guy has fired her over this because it's her fault (how? I DON'T know!!!) And she told me that she's on her own visa and working illegally. I'm not making assumptions. According to her, municipality are coming tonight and she's been told to get her things and go before they show up. Interestingly when I told her that I didn't realise my dog had hurt the other dog, she said she hadn't realised either. She said that she was in a room ironing when her employer came home and a short while after he got in, he came charging into the room with the dog, kicked over the ironing board and broke it and shoved the dog in her face demanding to know what had happened. Then he locked her out of the house and came charging over to ours. I'd have put it down to being distraught over his dog if it weren't for the fact that he lifted him off the ground by his leash and stretched his face with his other hand (!!!!) to show us the wound!!!

Assuming this is the neighbor who's after your dog I'd just like to say be careful with a tit for tat strategy. You may end up in even more of a mess than you already are with this neighbor. As for illegal maids, yes, the employer can be fined anything between 50-100k. And, if an expat himself, could even face deportation as well. That said, not every maid on own or husband's visa is illegal, so you may want to google a bit on that as well.
