Please could you help me out - I have just hired a new maid - my previous maid knew my family very well - she just handle things on her own but my new maid started yesterday & I need to give her a timetable but have no idea how long she should spend doing things. Maybe you could email me an example. little rushan at hotmail dot com
Sounds pathetic - I know - but if you can help that would be fantastic!
THANKS

Probably an Urban Legend but I wouldn't be surprised if a new (maid) arrival had heard about maids getting extra for 'seeing to sir' when ma'am has a headache and asked about it up front without thinking.

I can't confirm but I've heard of maids asking if there's 'headache money' during interviews. I find that hard to believe. I'm not saying maids don't sleep with the sirs, but would they really inquire about the salary for it in the interview?

It's a long-running joke. I *think* someone asked a similar question to the OP and someone else posted the list but forgot to remove their DH/DS's name (Alex) from the list so the generic list always had the line "Polish Alex's shoes". It's been doing the rounds for aaaaaages! Someone else said they suspected their maid and DH of polishing each others shoes which I took to be tongue in cheek.

Ah, see what you mean, I've read the thread now. Sounds like the DH might have been in line to have his head polished by a frying pan....

I gather "polishing each other's shoes" is yet another euphemism.. The things you learn on EW. ??? is it something you'd not want the maid to do to DH? or have I got completely the wrong end of the stick? :) I'm just putting two and two together in the context of the linked thread :D It's not actually part of the maid's schedule, as I understand it ;) edited by simpleasabc on 20/01/2011
