We are only shipping some of our household goods to Dubai and plan to purchase what we leave behind. We love to BBQ and are trying to decide whether it is worth shipping our large BBQ or is there a good range / good priced BBQ's in Dubai to buy.

3 sets of friends of ours all bought their BBQ's across from Oz and all had to convert them because the valves here on the gas bottles I think are different. We sold ours and have been meaning to buy one here but just haven't yet... its now 2 years since we've been here! So slack! LOL.

We ended up bringing one from Oz and are now glad we did - saw the same model (although without the wok burner - so not as many bells and whistles) at the garden centre on SZR for approx twice the price! It was a Beefeater. Something to think about: one drawback is that if you want to use the small gas cylinders that fit underneath, you actually have to drop the empties off at a place in Karama and then pick them up, re-filled, from somewhere else (Al Quoz if memory serves). I'm not sure if that same thing applies to gas bbq's bought here or just ones from overseas... You can always go the big cylinder option if you have the room for it - we didn't... You don't have to do all of that hassle. We brought our BBQ over with us and our gas bottle guy sorts out our refills no problem you just need to find a good gas man most jest can't be bothered. Thru had to fit a new regulator but its so easy to just call and get it changed. Thanks Claire, our current gas guys won't do it but l'll check it out... much easier than all the hoopla at the moment.

I have no problem finding decent vacuum cleaners here. Also just use one of the small barbecue bottles from the gas man. You cannot ship gas bottles anyway. What is a window sox for the car. Am I missing out on something good? As for clothing. I agree. Clothing here is same same

wish we'd bought and brought a new one from the UK, we had a Brinkmann there it was fab. Good quality ones are hard to find and expensive here too. Other things to add to your list ... clothing!

Agree, the quality is not as good as Oz. Bring it if you can. We are looking at BBQs at the moment and the quality is not the best.

We brought our bbq and use it all the time in the weather here, but being new here, are unsure of how it will cope in all seasons. We had to rent a villa as others said, as unlike other countries we have lived (Singapore, HK) apartments don't allow bbqs. Good luck with the move!

I agree with the others........not very good quality here. And it depends where you will be living. Living in a villa, no probs you can have a bbq, however most apartments do not allow bbq's. We thought we were going to be living in a villa when we were looking from Oz, however we are now living in an apartment......hence not allowed a bbq. A bit mean to tell an Ozzy they're not allowed to BBQ!!!

I agree with Green-ish, but we have found that the desert weather here is pretty rough on BBQs. So if you've got a really nice one it may not survive as easily as it would in another climate. True granola!!

I think it depends on the quality of the BBQ you have. If it's a really good one, you won't find a similar replacement in Dubai. Anything we saw there that's of half decent quality is very, very expensive. Picture bottom of the range Bunnings stock at over AUD300 for a relatively cr*ppy three-burner. ;) I've seen the lower quality range of Beefeater BBQ's in Dubai, but again at a premium.

We shipped everything including the big bbq cos OH's employer was paying for the container...however, we have lived in apartments since arriving here and it's illegal to use them on the balcony for fire safety. If you are planning on living in a villa I would bring it. There is a good range here at reasonable prices though, there's a big hardware warehouse like Bunnings (ACE) with a full range.
