Hi ladies,

Does any of you have info of what documents I need to change if I take my husband`s name? Is it difficult to do it in Dubai??

Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the answers ladies! I was truly scared of going through the hassle. My visa is under different sponsor (company) and my banking is with Emirates NBD. I will follow your advice for the driving license and wait for the renewal date. Have a great day xxx

It is far easier than you expect. As the others say change your passport first. My company then updated my visa and didn't even ask fro my marriage certificate. I bank with Emirates NBD and only had to take a copy of the marriage certificate, they didn't ask for any specimen signatures. Other things such as medical insurance card seem to have double barreled my name to cover all options! I haven't updated my driving licence they suggested to leave it until it needed renewing. It seems quite relaxed here when doing name changes, very unlike the UK.

I agree with all the points mentioned by Cosmos. I actually found the whole process far less time consuming and stressful than I expected it to be! First I got a new passpost. I still had two years remaining on it but my visa was also due for renewal so it made sense to get a new one at that point. Once I had that I processed my new visa and Emirates ID (If your husband will sponsor you it may be a different process but for me having my own sponsor it was very straight forward). Once I had these I proceeded to update my driving license. Changing my name on my bank account and credit cards was also straight forward but I did have to provide multiple signature specimins as I also changed my signature, but the bank were very helpful. There is obviously a certain amount of time required visiting all of the different offices and the usual admin costs are charged for the changes but if you have all the necessary documents it shouldn't be a problem. I found changing my name on my bank accounts overseas far more difficult.

Hi Cheekylady, I changed my name last year and have almost got all my documents done. First thing I did was my passport as I needed that for some of the other id. The emirates card was very easy (cost 200 or 300AED) and my visa was due to be renewed so that was easy too. Most places I had to take my original wedding certificate in to do them. There are charges for each but not too expensive. There doesn't appear to be a time limit for doing it all but it can be hassle (worst was bank account as they kept asking for different id with name changes on). I haven't done my driving license yet but will do soon but I believe that only takes a short time. None of it was difficult but can be a little time consuming waiting around at different places - my wedding certificate hasn't been notarised but that didn't seem to matter with any of the authorities. Not sure if the above helps.
