Thanks. No license yet, still no visas, but they said it is ok to buy it on a visit visa, but once we have our residency permits then we can apply for a license. Please please please don't get caught serving alcohol without a license, specially to locals. Thanks Irooni, I shall make sure it is a 'dry' night then. what about food? anything I need to know? hoprfully I shall have a maid in place by then and she can assist me. Just keep pork and wine sauces off the menu.

Oh, I did not realise it was so serious. So you mean they cannot choose? They are told who is allowed and who is not?

It's is illegal for Muslims to drink here, regardless of nationality - indeed western Muslims aren't allowed a license. Supplying alcohol is therefore akin to drug dealing and tempting a Muslim with alcohol is a criminal offence. That is the letter of the law, but of course "everyone" drinks... which is almost as dangerous a generalisation as "they"...

My money's on mrs j being a bloke. In minis and great legs..... And no undies! Lol! I find some of your comments quite hurtful really. Sorry, just the questions being asked are very controversial and Thursdays are known for wind ups. I suggest you use the search facility on here for some great advice and general rules about living here.

I am only asking for friendly advice. Are you new to Dubai? If you have an alcohol license, you are fine. Just let the guests know that you have a range of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages available. edited by brokenheart on 17/02/2011

I am only asking for friendly advice. If this a first time and you are new then no i would not have alcohol being served until you know who you are dealing with, very bad form. You have got a license?

We have some men coming from DH's office next weekend for an intro drinks n dinner thing. Should I offer them drink drinks or wait for them to ask for something other than juice/soft drink? Some of them are locals, but I have heard that if you offer them one, they will gladly accept.
