I'll try to convince my husband...I would love to start it...
as beginner...of course!!!
but I love dancing!
You should definitely try cuban then cheche - you'll find it a lot more fun with less fussy stuff! I think most of the guys find it a little less daunting without all the frills and posing hehe!
Just wondering how Trishy found the course she was thinking of going to - didn't that start this week? I'd be very interested myself in knowing how the classes were taught.

Hi Trishy, how much is it? I've been trying to call, but there's no answer... Thanks
It's only 400dhs for the three week course, you attend twice a week from either 7-8 pm or 8-9 pm.. Can't wait!
Sorry for my delayed response ... holiday season!!! Thanks so much for the info!
Unfortunately the Marina/Palm area doesn't work that well for me. Mirdif is a good option, though!
Hmmm ... Cuban style sounds interesting. Didn't even know there were different salsa styles??
Really appreciate your help ... now the decision whether to let my husband know I'm signing us up or surprise him ...?!
Happy dancing! :)
Does Roger teach cuban style? If so, I may be up for a refresher..... it's been a while!
I spoke to him again and he confirmed that he does teach authentic Cuban style. I was also relieved to find that I don't have to buy any special shoes or clothes, so no additional outlay there! I'm really excited about the 17th now! I wish I'd plucked up the courage to do this long ago. :) :)
Hahaha! So funny - YES i've seen the many variations of Bachata..... sometimes you just want to throw a bucket of cold water over them! Not a favourite of mine anyway - fortunately.
Been to Barasti and checked out James and Alex.... Not a fan of either. Too much emphasis on how to look 'good' (some of the ladies 'styling' makes me grin!)
Someone with the same idea here. I was actually demotivated from dancing salsa here. Too much effort in looking goog, too much partner -picking (good I have DH and he likes it or I'd miss old times back home when dancing was pure joy, regardless of the partner), too much arms and legs moving. But... No salero! No joy! No passion!
And have you seen bacciata - when I watch them dancing it here I am always afraid some legs might just fly out of the bodies eheheh.
Let's import some good teachers from Cuba or Porto Rico. Don;t mean to start a fight here (esp w/ other latin countries) but they still are the best for me.

Too much emphasis on how to look 'good' (some of the ladies 'styling' makes me grin!) and not enough of enjoying the music and actually dancing. No-one actually seems to smile when they're dancing which makes me wonder if they actually enjoy it! Go with authentic Cuban style - I LOVE it - much more enjoyable :)

I got the info on the classes in Mirdif. They start on 18th January at Mirdiff Uptown Primary School, the instructor's name is Roger and you can get all the info from him at [email protected] or phone him on 0501521881. I was told they're also starting classes in Knowledge Village around the same date and there are plans for more classes in the Green Community next month.
I plucked up the courage and called him myself yesterday - he says that you don't need to bring a partner so I've decided to bite the bullet and register for the class in Knowledge Village as it's closer to me...
I'm really looking forward to it :)
I have a fantasy of coming to dubai for a week or two for a learn to salsa dance holiday.
It would be like practicing for Strictly come dancing without the competition at the end of it and Old Brucie.
I wish, I really really wish :)
I heard that someone is starting lessons in the Mirdif area sometime this month. If that is any use to you I'll ask my friend if she has any other info.
I'd really love to go myself as it's something I always wanted to do but as I'm single I'm not sure if you need a partner to be able to join classes.
